Guardian or Warrior Please Help
the Guardian is definitely capable of doing all those things. : )) i am not the most skilled player so i still get kited if there are more than 1 or 2 players at times in WvW :/// but i’m slowly practicing more and more.
you can check out the Altruistic Healing + Hammer sticky thread for a good idea of a build that is capable of doing what you mentioned. at the same time, there are many other viable builds that can achieve this as well. i’ll let you have some fun with the traits and skills : ))
just some tips on gear – for a starters lvl 80, you can aim for a full knight’s gear. full knight’s jewelry, mixed with some valkyrie or berserker’s if you will. can opt for a PowVitTough chest and pants for the extra buffer. superior rune of the soldier full set. and have different sets of weapons as well. you’ll be pretty suvivable, lot of dmg mitigation (study the traits and skills, lot of fun stuff) and still dish out high, sustained dmg over time.
hope this helps.

Thanks Guardian is much more like the profession I am used to in other games just wasn’t sure how it was in this game.
If you use knight gear, you might try spending 30 points in the valor trait line, that gives you +300 armor on top of the knight gear toughness, but it also gives you +30% critdamage, which is arguably the best stat that is given by trait points, in the case of guardian especially nice because the valor trait line is not as useless as other trait lines.
Then you have a lot of toughness, but also increased critdamage, to go well with the ~45% crit chance you’ll have. Personally I like meditation utilities, because they give a nice balance of offensive and defensive effects, so 30 points in valor is mandatory for me.
You won’t have a lot of health points though, but my build has so much condition removal that the toughness is enough to get me by.
For pve especially, consider spending 15 points in zeal, that gives you an aoe blind on virtue of justice, and a refresh of that virtue every kill. I use sword/focus, so most fights, event against multiple enemies, will end without me having been hit a single time.

Correction. 5 points in Radiance for the AoE blind on Virtue of Justice and 15 for the refresh on a kill. It’s also recommended as it raises your Precision as well.
Guardian class is more a defensive class even all out damage. Warrior is more oriented in damage but has good defensive capabilities – but missing out aegis block and protection buff which makes all the difference.
If you want to be master of weapons, the choise is warrior. If you wanna be a front man juggernaut, its Guardian.

Warrior has 2 excellent ranged weapons. We have none. If you WvW this might be a big consideration.
Warriors can spec to do lots of things really well. Buffs needed? Banners give nice buffs and so do shouts. Healing? Shouts can heal. CC? Weapons have many CC effects and they have a nice fear as a class skill too. The Hammer alone has 4 CC skills. Damage? Let me count the ways. Just roll your face across the keyboard. Defense? Endure Pain and a decent set of shield skills. Not to mention the most health in the game.
Don’t sell the warrior short. He is very flexible.
Both classes are good.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Warriors hit hard and are often hard to kill, but for me Guardian is better because he gives you more variety of playstyles and he’s not so boring.
Anyone said that Guardian get kited a lot ? I think they do. And warrior have a better ranged weapon I would say. ( played both profession )
If you’re looking to protect your allies/team then Guard. Don’t get me wrong, I have a War as well and really like it. Play style with both Guard and War is very similar (though agree that the Warrior has better ranged options), but Guard seems to have more skill/traits that provide group defense, protection, retaliation, etc. War seems to be more about buffing the groups DPS (might/fury) – you can heal with shouts, but only after a 30pt trait. With Guard, it’s almost natural (plus you can do wicked AOE DPS for fun on top of being helpful).
Thanks for all the replies so far.
You need to actually try both classes, in my opinion. They both offer what you’re looking for, but with different aesthetics and playstyles.
