What is the real point of a guardian is it more like a heavy armor warrior or what?

It’s a support/healer type who doesn’t have much range and focuses on protecting the party in general. It is melee oriented and very good to have around in dungeons or larger groups. They work well on their own as well, keeping quite high damage.

The trade off is that they have low health (but very high armor).

This is a pretty good description. I would add that along with heavy armor, we have the some of the best condition removals, heals (that can be focused on yourself or the team, however you trait) and defensive spells to mitigate damage.

We fall a little short in overall and burst damage compared to other professions. But, if you like to be the first in and the last standing, holding positions and keeping your team up, and being very difficult to take down in skirmishes; then Guardian is for you.

The guardian is supposed to be the “knight.” That was their original name too. They’re basically warriors with less offense and more defense. They also have more support buffs compared to the warrior, although they’re not really healers. They don’t actually have that many healing skills and the ones they do have aren’t that good.

Amen, someone finally saying that we are not healers. I think it’s the blue color making people think we are healers, but let me tell you this guys … if you rely on a guardian to heal you, I have bad news for you xD

I respect people playing them like Knights/Paladins (player’s choice) but given the origins of this profession, being mostly an amalgam of Paragon/Monk traditions, it’s mostly a defensive magic user clad in Heavy Armor, much like the old school Cleric’s, but without blunt weapon restrictions of any sort. I say this too, because traditional Knights/Paladins almost always have a decent health pool (like most “Warriors”), so this is not a traditional “Soldier Profession”, even though one would think so at first instance-especially since they are part of the only two “Soldier” (Heavy Armor users) in the game. So it’s not wrong to think of them as knightly, but I deem the character concept more of an hybrid between traditional classes-a battle cleric/priest.

Note that this isn’t an argument, though. Most people equate them to Paladins, and that’s OK-I just happen to think they are not clones at all of any other game’s Paladins, and as such, “shouldn’t be” (IMHO) treated as such. It’s OK to make of the Profession whatever is fun to you, in any case.

I’m not sure what the distinction you’re trying to make is? Whether I’m a “battle cleric” or a “knight” I’m still basically just the guy in heavy armor with a big sword. I don’t think there’s any real illusion that the guardian heals, at least not at this point.

That is a pretty broad statement. Guardians can heal, just like they can DPS.

If your looking for direct heals, then your not going to find that in a guardian. You will find decent aoe heals that can (and do) change the tide of difficult battles.

If played correctly, with buffs and shields, you can keep your team up and fighting much longer then they would be on there own.

Clerics were replaced by paladins and knights. These kids noawadays don’t have a clue about the cleric class lol

The guardian is identical in every way to the battle cleric except that he can also use sharp weapons.

There is no arguement. The guardian is more old school than old school its not a new ckass design at all. Just repackaged.
