Guardian secondary class speculation
Monk seems sorta obvious and seeing how men of the cloth are often very supportive in games it’s one I’m rooting for.
I’m sorta hoping for some kind of “zealot” that uses a pistol or a rifle. I’d really like the way that looks.
Man, Guardian is a tough one!
Generally, I hope that the specializations offer a new way to play the class, rather than a furthering of its existing strengths. With that in mind, I think of guardians as being pretty defensively oriented. I’d like to see a Zealot specialization that swaps out all that yummy defense/boon stuff for aggressive DPS/condition oriented skills. Instead of Virtues giving boons, make them give conditions or DPS boons. If there is a new spear or polearm weapon type… that’d be the one! If not… maybe a shortbow or longbow?
Executioner -Secondary Guardian class
Axe/GreatAxe
Considering that this is their chance to make up for all the class discrepancy kitten ups, i would say LONG BOW would be the main weapon for this new class.
Lets face it:
Axe: Melee centric, more of the same crap. Would compete with mace and sword. We don’t need more melee
Rifle: Another likely addition; only problem is that it just dont fit with the classs
Short bow: Well, i would say it would be as likely as the longbow, but since u are a kitten motherkittener who don’t mind staying in melee range to tank kitten, it would make u less likely to wield this over the longbow
Warhorn: Bleh, would only bring 2 skills to the table, and appart from some form of swiftness, it would suck most likely, and u can’t really beat focus as offhand
Which leaves us with:
LONGBOW: Its a weapon which lorewise, can be infused to deal and unleash magic, or even condi dmg, which the guard desperately need. Besides, dont you fella want to shoot Blue magic arrows instead of throwing ultra slow magic orbs at some fool who is kiting and /loling at you?
Paladin, Monk, Crusader
weapons: hope for Rifle, 2h axe , offhand axe, mace, Land spear
Would make sense to do a Paragon type, but that would require a Spear, and atm we don’t know if any NEW weapons will be introduced. Furthermore, it’s already an underwater weapon.
It would be nice since guardian is lacking in the ranged department. Also, if spears are one handed like in GW1 a Warhorn would also fit nicely with it.
If not then I suspect we might see a Longbow on guards.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
Rifle: Another likely addition; only problem is that it just don’t fit with the class
I know I’m hella biased here, but I really don’t think the Rifle wouldn’t fit with the Guardian. I think it would look awesome to see blue flames spitting out of a blunderbuss.
Inquisitor(Zeal) Hammer offensive cc burst, Monk (Valor) Staff duh defensive cc healer, Enlighter(Radiance) scepter/torch burn and blind, Median (Virtue) LB fusion with holy masters, Crusader (Honor) duel mace.
The Dhuumfire thread
I’d be good with monks and paragons. Paragons could get an offensive ranged skill-set with a spear, and monks could get a supportive ranged skill-set with a longbow (or a trident). It’d be interesting to see what kind of other skills and profession mechanics they’d have as well.
The niche of Ritualist is kind of filled by the new profession.

Crusader – Uses Longbows to deal heavy damage, and applies boons to allies through shouts.
Paragon – Spear
Dervish – Scythe
Axe for the bleeds?!
#HoTcondiguardianhype2015
Dervish – Scythe with new condition → Deep Wound
I think there’s a good chance there’s a new spear weapon, so some class that would use that. it’d be cool if we could use it one handed or two handed. so you can have a shield and spear.
Hi!
I have few ideas here too:
Warpriest – Longbow
Supports allies with skills like Spirit Bow has. Skills include healing, condi cleanse and blinding opponents.
Zealot – Spear
Offensive spear skills made for dealing damage.
Im hoping for something one handed and ranged. One handed opens up more options when it comes to builds and also allows for double wielding.
One handed also has some nice traits (15% crit chance)
We also need a good ranged option to deal with kiters which are a menace för guardian.
So it comes down to pistols for me.
So basically double wielding pistols and maybe access to one or two more conditions.
Short/long bow would be interesting as well.
Any other existing weapon than that would just be redundant imo.
Hopefully they adress what the profession lack with the new weapon/specialisation.
Inquisitor – Pistol/Pistol
Maybe a Templar – making the shield worth using in pve and pvp as well as a longbow option
Crusader.
Less reliance on Boons, less support, less carry mode. Virtues changed to a dynamic resource.
[SALT]Natchniony – Necromancer, EU.
Streams: http://www.twitch.tv/rym144
Paragon → weapon: Polearm – crippling and bleeding attacks plus 1 jump at enemies range 1200 plus 1 pull range 800.
Personally I would like spear above all. Focus on the Zealot/Offense concept. No “tank” stuff, we have enough.
I like @Rym’s idea with virtues changed to dynamic resources.
Imagine Spear (Javelin) and a workable shield in offhand. Pff.
P.S. At least 1 Guardian appears in the HoT trailer @ 1:53 wielding a Twilight fighting that small scale dragon. You can see a symbol of wrath behind a Charr in Primeval armor jumping in the air with what it looks like a mace or scepter. After the frame changes left corner appears a Human model with Aegis shield on his hand that shoots a fireball similar to ele Staff Fire 1. Twilight Guardian does a WW and after that you see a VoJ spamm with what it looks like an asura doing a backflip with something strange in his hand. HYPE. Be sure to put the speed @ 0.25 because it goes fast.
Crusader.

I agree that the specialization will probably be all less boon, support, and carry, but I’m guessing virtues will stay the same.
I’ve been thinking about the trend in gear in the game lately and the fact that guardians have access to the least amount of conditions. My bet is that it will have something more to do with condition. Giving them an axe would make sense and fit this since most axe attacks in the game do a condition (might be wrong).
I’ll like to get a specialization that focus on support, gives support defencive skills and acess to support weapons, like Warhorn and something new, maybe a Templar or Saint Idk.
And a specialization that increases our offencive habilities, I don’t like being stuck with Meditations, not they are not good because they are, but something to play with them and for kitten sake give me a Bow!! a Zealot or Paladin Idk
Just improve the class, don’t make it OP and make it better for support than those trash cele eles
I’m hoping for some kind of ranged option that is better than ‘moderately sucky’.

Repeating X-Bow.
Repeating X-Bow.
Would be cool for tower defense I guess… but I don’t find X-bow or even LB very thematic to the guardian archetype.
Sticking to the roots would be cool http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Spear_Mastery
Imagine throwing spear. Yes please!?
I’m hoping for a longbow or trident. A spear would be nice too I guess, depending on its skill-set. I just really don’t want the new weapon to be something completely lame like double axes. >_>

I’m thinking about the 2 main roles that guardians play:
Paragon: More defensive, shout improvement, new ranged weapon: Throwing Spear.
Knight: More offensive, DPS imrpovement, has the ability of dual-weilding 1 handed weapons (Sword, Mace and Scepter).
x-bow can be thematic, if it uses magic attacks.
Alternatively, main-focus can be a bit like the cross from dante’s inferno ( but with guardian ankh projectiles )
Executioner -Secondary Guardian class
Axe/GreatAxe
As a guardian from the day I joined, I support Great Axe.
x-bow can be thematic, if it uses magic attacks.

Focus as a main hand weapon perhaps?
Would make sense
Did anyone mention Nunchuckas or Brass Knuckles?
I’m really hoping for a “magical” longbow.
Hopefully something that allows Guardian some variety apart from Super Bunker or Glass Cannon.
I wonder if certain classes will use Land Spears as a 1hander and other classes have it as a 2hander..
wouldnt that spice up the weapon mechanics?
Guardians with 1hander main hand spear as a Paragon would be interesting.
Eh, giving Longbow to Guardian would be pretty boring, too much like Warrior.
Personally, I’d love seeing main hand Shield or Spears.

Doubtful. If guardians got a longbow it’d likely be themed the same way Bow of Truth is themed (supportive, ranged, magical).
Didn’t they say there will be no new weapons? The thing Rytlock’s using in the trailer is just a staff.
Didn’t they say there will be no new weapons? The thing Rytlock’s using in the trailer is just a staff.
I don’t think they said that …
Being Longbow, Shortbow or even a Crossbow, whatever, just give some range weapon for the Guardian that doesn’t suck. Scepter #1 and #3 will not hit if you are not like less than 600 of range from the target when both have max ranges of 1200 and 900 so it sucks
Guardian will start throwing potatoes in middle combat, condi builds will probably have more effect in other classes while guardian will stay “balanced” with utilities that are not working aka spirit weapons, signets are litle bit useless, and sactuary still gona be a self kill trap.
(edited by Aeolus.3615)
The guardian will wield spirit weapons instead of real weapons, which also can be destroyed.

Would be awesome if all weapon types could be equipped 1 or 2 handed, Dark Souls style. Would add a huge bunch of skills
I know we’re not getting any new weapons this patch, but for the sake of speculation I’d love to see a radical change with the Guardian’s Spec – “Fist” Weapons (i.e. claws/brass knuckles) with powerful new weapon skills, and a solid Trait line but remove the ability to wear Heavy Armour (in favour of light armour only) and we can only wield Fists (which are two handed), Scepter, Staff and Focus (so no Sw/GSw/Hammer/Mace/Shield)
It could look something like this:
Light-armour only
Internal cool-down on virtues are halved (so twice as many aegis, heal and burning on hit)
Meditations, Consecrations and Shouts are improved by 10%
New weapon: Fists
1st skill: Powerful combo, 2nd chain applies vulnerability, 3rd is a quick 3-strike combo
2nd skill: Symbol of Zealotry – Fire-field applies burning on foes, gives quickness to allies
3rd skill: A teleport combined & damage with a stun-break
4th skill: An evade that provides protection to self & allies, and if an enemy attack is evaded nearby enemies are chilled
5th skill: A block. If an attack is blocked, it is countered and enemies take damage and are immobilized
Pretty powerful, but if you consider that you’re sacrificing a good amount of armour as well as our best DPS weapons (Great Sword and Sword) means I think a balance could be struck.
My Norn Guardian would also look kittening boss in Devout Armour punching people
Don’t expect any major changes to the fundamentals of the class.
I can see another ranged option in either a longbow or shortbow. If some of the images mean anything then we could potentially see spear/shield combination.
Time will tell, though. I hope they release class specializations in the coming weeks with previews!
Yeah I’m not expecting that much to be honest, it’s likely just new weapons. Which is a shame, as I don’t really see how they’re “specializations” just something a little different. I’d like to see the specializations leading to a significant change in the class’s core mechanic (e.g. Druid for Ranger removing pets, but replacing it with ‘druidic’ summons; or a thief with rifle having their Steal replaced with a ‘camouflage’ ability that provides stealth while standing still, and draining initiative)
I’m not getting my hopes up too much though. The Revenant looks good however!
The only change I’d like to see is to make guardian the best ‘bunker’ option. It is just weird when engi or ele (medium and light armored) can hold point better than heavy defensive class.
my best is something that pushes for more dps. I like off hand sword idea, but i think the lack of true range weaps sends us down the long/shortbow road. someone else mentioned longbow would be too much like a war, so… shortbow incoming.
or, maybe a trident as a land weap, lame as it may be
I think weapons like shortbows or longbows don’t fit guardian well. I’d rather see more gap closers with meele weapons.
