Hello there fellow guild wars players!
I’m pretty new in the world of guild wars 2, and i just got a lvl 80 guardian character. I’m still figuring some good build for pve out, and i came up with one that’s pretty decent i do think. So i’m just sharing this to share some thought with you about this build. What could be better?

I personally do like the shout ‘save yourself’, it’s a huge buff for yourself and also draws conditions from allies to yourself wich can be very handy. So your guys opinion if I should trow the ‘save yourself’ in there or keep it this way, or change my traits or other utility skills.
Thanks in advance!!
Greetings

I think this would be a better support/tank build personally. ‘Pure of Voice’ and ‘Empowering might’ synergise well with ‘Altruisitc Healing’ since PoV will convert conditions into boons thus more healing to you. More boons to your allies, more healing done to you. As for ‘Master of Consecrations’, at times you would need Wall of Reflection when the time calls for it.

This Build Is really good at tanking/supporting. Believe me, I’ve tried it and tested it personally.

I run with the build Robolee posted at the moment. I prefer it to the one in the OP (which I’ve also tried) because, as he suggests, it tends to be a little more survivable and equally supportive.

You should be switching out your utility skills situationally, so it’s not really a question of whether to “keep” Save Yourself. There are times when you’ll want to ditch one of those shouts for Wall of Reflection or perhaps Purging Flames. If you don’t happen to be running with a consecration, you can always switch out “Master of Consecrations” for “Vengeful” or even “Unscathed Contender.”

Remove 10 points in Virtue and put into Valor for Altruistic Healing. AH and Monk’s Focus are our best traits for defense. You don’t need the group condition removal on Virtue of Resolve since we already have spammable light fields for the group. If you do need extra group condition removal for certain fights, pick up Pure of Voice.

In PvE, never limit yourself to certain traits and utilities. For a defensive build, I’ll take “Hold The Line” as a “staple” utility of the build since it’s awesome in most situation. The other two slots can be switched around. Example could be picking up Master of Consecration trait and Wall of Reflection utility against range mobs or Purity + Pure of Voice against conditions.

I prefer 0/0/30/30/10

I switch the major’s out depending on the situation (shout cooldown, altruisitic healing and toughness>precision are always there though), not to mention having amazing survivability and overall durability.

Usually keep Retreat and Hold The Line on my bars at all times to give me two shouts I can use. (The group Aegis comes in handy so many times, coupled with our F3 skill for even more damage negation).

Last skill I use Wall Of Reflection a lot. With the 10 Point virtues to make it last longer it is amazing on far to many situations. I’ll usually swap that out with a stability skill depending where we are and if we are running past mobs we don’t need to kill.

Robolee and others what kind of weapons do you use with a shout support build? I’m guessing hammer and something/shield but whats the best weapon to go with shield?

thanks

An honor/valor build is nice because you’re not really chained to any one weapon, although the valor line does offer benefits to using a mace or shield. Really, the best thing to do is to carry a few different weapons in your bags and switch them out situationally.

Staff is nice in that it has some great support abilities, awesome build synergy with ability 4, and provides a bit of range. Mace fits in well with the goal of defense and support, as does the focus. The shield also buffs defense and provides a knockback (although whether that’s good or bad is subjective). The hammer is all about control, if you’d rather go that route. Sword is good for mobility and, due to its faster attack speed, getting more crits, which works well with empowering might.) And whether we like it or not, there are some situations where range is absolutely necessary and we’re best served by pulling out the scepter.

Most of the time in PVE, I run with mace/focus and Staff. In WvW I typically run with hammer and mace/shield. I don’t do sPvP, so I can’t really speak for what works there.

Thank you very much all, really appreciate all the effort you guys are putting into helping someone. Real nice of all of you. I think i found the good build for me as a supportive/tanky guardian.
As build i choose:
While i’m in the dungeon i’ll be swapping weapons with some circumstances, and will be swapping the trait line: ‘vengeful’ and ‘master of consentration’ allong with the utility skill ‘stand your ground ’ with the skill ’wall of reflection’. I will be trying this build soon and think it’s gonna work out real good.
Thanks all!!

If you want to go with a pure tank build, here’s what I use:
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mccM0mzz0mNvaomNvao9MxxaVoqcksM8kil7070m7kGl70V7owX70m8ofv

It allows me to go toe-to-toe with Lupicus in Arah and not even have to worry 99% of the time.

Runes of the Earth, Sigil of Blood, Omnomberry Pies. All knight’s gear, with a hammer and scepter/focus for the ranged root+damage as well as the 3 block shield.
