The large majority of my hours in this game have been with my guardian. As a result, I can usually predict what another guardian will do, and I know they probably feel the same way.

I usually run into three types of guardians:

  1. Greatsword / Sword+Focus Berserker
  2. Hammer Knight/Soldier
  3. Mace Bunker

I just treat berserkers like thieves, except I know when every attack will come :/ I always try to do the unexpected, such as dropping a Wall of Reflection on someone who’s starting up Whirling Wrath. However, I usually just end up dueling the other two until we both /bow and walk away.

So what strategy do you use when fighting other guardians in the wild?

I don’t use any special strategy beyond what I usually do. Usually I have GS/Staff for mobility and replace Staff with Scepter & Focus for encounters. I’m sure there are choices that are better, but I’ve found this combo to suit me the best. My build in general is fairly cookie-cutter defensive AH. Most Guardians I encounter use some form of zerk build. I think I’ve met an obvious bunker only once.

Because the basis of my build is survivability, I don’t do much in terms of burst damage. Therefore I really have to save my more offensive moves for when I can stack them. After weathering their burst with retaliation, blocks and heals, I tend to use Scepter 3 and 2, GS 3, Signet of Wrath, GS 4 and 2, and 5. A more defensive build would break free of any conditions, but generally they stick well to zerkers. They don’t seem to dodge much either.

With a bunker, it’s just a merry-go-round until one of us gets a friend.

Since I know the moves of the other guardian, I try to make them waste their attacks and get them after they blew everything. I tend to play more defensive and observe how that person plays first.

Retaliation and stability monitoring is key on both sides, when I have mine up and when they have theirs up.

Beyond that, I try to not waste any of my attacks on a renewed focus or a shelter.

The winner tends to be the one that still has moves left to use, at the same time, if you sit on everything and don’t use them enough you will fall behind…just have to find that balance and it changes from fight to fight.

as a bunker, this is how 2 bunker guardian fight over 30 minutes.
