Guild Wars 2

As GW2 is all about cosmetics i went all out and spent a good hour or two browsing various sites and trying to find a fitting set beside the standard badge ones (wich aren’t too fantastic imo)

I currently have the CoE Shoulders and SE kilt but i seem to be completely unable to find gloves, chest and boots that fit my style at all.

Any input would be great, thanks!

If you haven’t gone to the Mists to check out the armor in the PvP locker, I suggest you do so.

As a matter of personal preference, I really like the heavy armor from dungeon Honor of the Waves. It’s a fairly light armor load with a cloth half-robe that harkens back to the Dervish. Banded armor can be found fairly cheaply on the TP, and its pauldrons are very nice aesthetically; of course, I haven’t found a set of pauldrons I like more than the HoM ones.

Seconding the banded armor suggestion. Some of those pieces look really nice. I was fairly disappointed that the exotic crafted gloves only support a single dye color. I’m also still puzzled by the Charr T3 armor, which appears to be “Hey we heard you like spikes, so we put some spikes on your spikes and added some spikes.” Who the kitten wants to wear a rhino horn for a helmet?

Are there sites that allow you to look at 3D models of armor piece by piece, allowing you to do a mix-and-match preview? WoWHead had built something like this before, but it looks like GuildHead hasn’t picked it up (perhaps more difficult to render the models of GW2).

I personally don’t like any complete sets, but I like pieces from a number of different ones.

You can look at pretty much all the armor skins using the preview option on the armor in the PvP locker.

Indeed I know about the Preview feature, but at the same time I wanted a place to preview the models out-of-game as well; as well as merge sets together (helm from set A with legs from set B, and so on).

A good start, thanks. Ideally it would be a model viewing applet allowing you to drag pieces and see what they’d look like real-time. I’m asking too much, I know.

I don’t care for any of the armor sets in the PvP locker. I really want a Guardian specific set that uses the Visionary’s helm model, the starter shoulders with Ankhs and with a plate chestpiece with an inscribed Ankh on it.

All of the other armor is too plain, or too spikey.

This probably goes against your style but I’ve attached a picture of my Guardian. I got the karma armour from Orr but didn’t like the spikeyness of the helmet, gloves and boots so I mixed them up with the karma armour from Frostgorge Sound. Easy as pie to get and look pretty swish if you ask me!
The dye colours are Mithril, Antique Gold and I think Stone if you’re interested.
I’m not totally happy with the gloves and boots but I’m going to just save up for the tier 3 cultural ones.

I don’t get why you aren’t using the PvP locker, Tobeyeus, the PvP locker sets are the same sets you’d get in PvE..

The PvP locker lets you mix and match in the preview seeing as you can preview ANYTHING in there.. Cultural? You got it, the various different dungeon armors? Also there, karma vendors from all throughout the world? Their skins are in there too..

GW2DB’s model viewer only allows you to see the model by itself iirc.

I like the set Silver uses, you can get it from karma vendors (non exotic) all throughout the Orr maps and Fireheart Rise too. The set is called “Dark” in the PvP locker.

Yeah I think I’ll be buying quite a few Fine Transmutation stones…

Here’s my question though: Besides all of the specific sets (like those on gw2armor.com ) how can we find cool looking pieces that aren’t those top level sets?

You can’t preview from the trading post, and nobody seems to have a list showing the various possible pieces models and how to find a piece that uses that model.

For example I finally last night got a drop for a chest piece that isn’t a flat chain/scale boring chest. I have wanted something like it but have no way to find something that shares the model.

Is there any site that shows all of the various models and which gear names use them?

The thing I don’t like about Heavy Armor is you can’t customize your “theme” as much as light armor.

What race are you? Human t2-3 heavy armor cultural looks completely amazing for guardian, I’m currently rocking the t2 and can’t keep my eyes off it

I use T2 Cultural Shoulders and the rest is the Primeval Set from Gems. Looks AMAZING.

I really like the Shining Blade getup, I personally have the draconic coat and have transmuted everything else to the banded set with a silver and green theme (everyone seems to be using a lot of gold so i avoided it). looks pretty awesome.

If you rolled a human female, then yeah…the cultural heavy armor works pretty well. But I’ve found that a lot of the male heavy armor have ridiculously large pauldrons, which puts me off of them. I kinda wish the dyes could include metallic sheens on them to override the current skins on certain armors; the T2 human cultural heavy armor has a distinctive sheen to it, much like how the Caudecus heavy does. This makes it hard to piece together with other armors, unless you get creative with specific dyes that help to mask the effect.

Any, atm I’m running karma god chest, banded pauldrons, whispers gauntlets and koda legs/feet with caudecus helm. Looks light enough to be jumping around like I do with the hammer, but enough metal to seem heavy enough. I use a celestial base (lucky drop) with ivory and ocean dyes for accents.

Go to the preview pane and preview the following items:

Armor:
Heavy Armageddon Helm
Pit Fighter Shoulders
Flame Legion Breastplate
Draconic Leggings
Flame Legion Boots

This is the set I built. It is very appealing and works with many variants of colors. I will post images when I get home.
