I’m getting stomped every single 1v1. What am I doing wrong? It seems enemies wipe me in 20 seconds. Which is pretty good. If I was playing another class it would be over more quickly. I can usually get shield of wrath and shield of absorption off before being crushed.

I just get DPS’d down too quickly. What’s the deal with the massive DPS? Is everybody else a glass cannon? What’s going on? Why have I only got 12k HPs?

I feel extremely weak and heavy armour seems like a joke. Is there no passive mitigation at all?

What’s your build? What were you doing (DEs, dungeons, or PvP)? How did you die (to conditions or to spike damage, getting swamped, etc…)?

I play a lot of WvW.
I went with one of the builds someone mentioned here. Here are some factors to take into consideration;
a) It was a spike build, so it has nothing to mitigate damage in itself, but I can’t even muster reasonable output,
b) My character is only 45, so I don’t have access to the full trait spec of the build.

What is a reasonable a build for WvW? I find myself switching skills depending on whether I’m in open field/keep assault or keep defense (“feel my wrath… my tiny, weak, 20 second long wrath”).

For WvW big battle, most of the time you either sit back and deal damage with scepter or support your team with staff. I usually only enter melee on stragglers (immobilze, teleport into a one shot, then run away). If you want to be a full time melee, you can only do small battles like attacking caravan. If you want range, you can probably make a damage build with 30 in radiance for the 15% crit.

You will get destroyed at level 45 by level 80s.

Well yeah, first off, 45 and 80 are large differences. Not that it matters that much, but it still does in terms of skills and elites at your disposal.

Second, weapon choices matter as well. Personally, I go GS/Scepter+Focus, but I do that in most instances anyway. With GS you have your gap closer/blind, as well as your symbol+spins for cleansing conditions and your Blinding Blade for DoT→Pull/Knockdown. For Scepter, you have your ranged attack if you’re kiting plus an AoE attack and your CC, which helps a lot. From the Focus, which I love, you get a blind/regen and then a 3-Block shield (amazing).

Build-wise, I’m running a 0-30-20-20-0. Always applying burning. Something like http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#MzcmMozzmLFRoMxvRm0xGG0MoqMVoR where utilities and such can be reworked depending on your tastes.

As for WvW, it can be pretty hard to gauge a person’s power since not everyone is equal, so don’t feel bad if you can’t win yet. Keep at it!
