Help the new guy out?
1. Solo PvE build and tactics
Tools like this come in handy when talking builds/gear: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/guardian/
As far as tactics… experiment with every weapon set’s abilities and find what you like… it’s part of the fun in gw2.
2. Finding a Dungeon party
www.gw2lfg.com Check it out…thousands of us use it. It’s invaluable for finding dungeon groups or starting them yourself. I’d recommend just joining someone else’s group to start… the command /join Focus Face is an example of how you’d join someone’s party in game.
3. What ever changes I will need to make to my PvE build to make It Dungeon viable
Do a little digging on these forums (guardian subforum) and you’ll find quite a few threads dedicated to just that.
4. I would like to know of any money making tips such as crafting and mob grinding
I think the general consensus is that crafting will cost you money… it won’t make you any. My experience so far is that there are 3 decent ways to make cash:
- Open world boss mobs. Use this site to monitor when the bosses are spawning on your server: http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/
- Cursed Shore events/mob farming. I think this zone provides a large number of events which net you karma and plenty of loot if you tag a lot of mobs during the events for loot credit.
- Dungeon runs. Dungeons in general will get you a fair amount of cash from both completing the dungeon as well as loot along the way.
5. What would my PvP gear/Build have to be?
Again, I’d suggest browsing around in this guardian sub-forum a little more… there are numerous threads dedicated to different builds and how they should be played to be most effective.
1. Solo PvE build and tactic
Your Zeal’s traits are fine for the Greatsword, try getting III (Symbols are Larger) and IX (Two Handed Reduced CDs) in Honor, and the last you’re free to choose.
I’d recommend X (Symbols Heal Allies) if you’re having trouble with packs of mobs.
While Berserker gear is great for damage, it lacks survivability so that’s why you’re having trouble with 3+ mobs.
I use this trait build with the gear set of Soldier, Power -> Toughness = Vitality. You can take a bunch of hits, you have a large health pool so you won’t die soon, and the high Power helps your Retaliation boon damage (comes from Symbol of Wrath, don’t forget to use Leap of Faith inside it to get another extra duration).
So I have a bunch of healing (25 from Zealous Blade, 130~ from Symbol Healing, 105 from Virtue of Resolve), and monsters are killing themselves taking 400ish each time they attack me, plus Symbol ticks (800ish) and my attacks (1200ish).
Retaliation builds are the best for farming, as you can kill huge packs with ease.
With some practice, you’ll know how many monsters you can hold on at once, and it just gets better as you gear up.
Another suggestion is to use a Staff as secondary weapon, even if you don’t like it (I didn’t at first). It has Swiftness so it’s useful for moving around, and can save you if you get overwhelmed (start running, cast a Line of Warding, get past it and Empower yourself).
You can also run around pulling mobs with the Staff, and Symbol of Swiftness -> Swap -> Symbol of Wrath -> Whirling Wrath.
You get more healing from the Symbols, deal more damage and stack more vulnerability around you.
3. What ever changes I will need to make to my PvE build to make It Dungeon viable
It is pretty viable, as you can keep Writ of the Merciful if you want healing for the melees (they’re always dying), or Empowering Might, or Battle Presence, etc
From Zeal you can pick the Spirit Weapons (except the extra damage one) traits for group support (Hammer gets melee control, Shield against ranged, Bow for unreliable condition removal but awesome AoE healing), or Scepter/Focus traits if you’re going ranged.
Depending on the dungeon, when the AoE isn’t so required, I switch for a Sword & Shield + Scepter & Focus weapon sets and change my traits for anything I said above in Zeal, and Anything + Empowering Might + Battle Presence in Honor.
Meditations are great for soloing, and you get Smite Condition for self-removal, but when you’re in a group I suggest dropping Meditations as they don’t provide anything to the group and go for Shouts, Consecrations or Spirit Weapons instead.
Then you’re free to pick either Retributive Armor (3~5% extra crit chance depending on your Toughness) or Purity in Valor.
Dungeons might seem hard at first, mobs will hit you for a ton, but that’s normal, as you get more experienced you’ll learn what and how to avoid these damages.
Then you can switch your build for something very offensive like 20/25/0/25/0.
If you want more survivability for some reason, if you’re still having trouble while learning and would like to take more hits before going down, a 10/0/30/30/0 build serves well and still deals some damage (it’s a defensive build, so don’t expect to deal more damage though).
4. I would like to know of any money making tips such as crafting and mob grinding
Personally, I find my Guardian one of the best professions to make gold from farming monsters and events. The Greatsword / Staff combo is great for tagging a bunch of monsters in Orr events, you just need to switch every now and then and always Whirling Wrath the packs.
If you got some defense, you can take a bunch of hits even if you go inside the monster packs.
Guardian is the quickest bag-filler from these events… I get loot from nearly every mob that I manage to get close (Judge’s Intervention for better tagging).
You go to Orr, and keep running around looking for events. There’s plenty of events that, the more people around, the more mobs it spawn. Or even if there’s only you sometimes it spawns just too freaking much.
The popular ones are the Temple ones from Straits of Devastation (Balthazar, it’s a huge chain pretty much everywhere in the west coast), Dwayna/Lyssa in Malchor’s Leap (Dwayna can be done with as few as 3~, but Lyssa requires a bunch more, but there’s always events up with tons of things to kill) and in Cursed Shore pretty much all events have huge spawning rates so you can go anywhere.
Or if you don’t mind some boring grind, you can stay in the Penitent/Shelter camp sites, and keep repeating those two events (and occasionally Jofast’s camp to the southwest). These always spawn a bunch of mobs and there’s always many players so you can get some farming party pretty easy.

Other than this, google for “Dragon Timers” and there’s a site with timers for big events that yields chests (usually with Rares), and you can do these once per day per character.
So if it’s about to start, you can WP to it (you’ll get more than the WP cost, for sure), do the event, get at least 1 Rare, and sell it for 15s+
To make gold with crafting… well, it’s pretty annoying.
You calculate how much it cost to make some item (say, 2g), and check who’s buying (always less than 2g) and who’s selling (higher than 2g usually).
So you either put it up for the lowest price, or undercut by a copper so if a buyer appears, they’ll buy yours first (unless someone undercuts you just like you did to someone else).
Always check if the price you’re selling will be profitable, and you’ll notice you can get about… 5~10s profit on each sell usually since there’s so many people selling. That if you complete a sell, because if you have to cancel it… you just lost a % of the price.
So lots of studying about which items are good to sell, which are selling more, which is more profitable, etc…
You can get item TP infos at www.gw2spidy.com
Whew, that’s it.
