I make PvP & WvW videos
(edited by mrauls.6519)
Hello everyone,
I currently run a trait set-up of 0/5/30/30/5, a standard AH build. This build has allowed me to play comfortably up to this point, but I’ve started to wonder “Am I being selfish?” I want to stay alive as long as I possibly can while dealing damage. That’s fun to me. I also want to aid my party members in a quick and easy way.
My toughness is close to 3.1k and I’ve reached 85% unbuffed critical %. I’m neither looking to call myself a tank or a godly damage dealer – I just want to be a productive member of my party. I’m wondering if I could invest trait points into different train lines, maybe ones that will do what I want to do better, and effectively boost my overall benefit to the party.
I want another way to do close to or better DPS while maybe giving up some toughness to increase the groups survivability or trading survivability for boon spreading.
I know AH isn’t the only way to play, there has to be something else out there that will come to a close to perfect fit to how I want to play.
Images of my stat and trait allocation so you can tell me what changes could be made:

Traits:
You can’t exactly change much unless you tear apart AH. The only change I can see happening is taking out 5 in radiance and putting it in virtues for the +20% dmg with aegis. The blind on virtue of justice is not that useful without renewed justice (for PvE).
Stats:
First of all, your toughness is not 3.1k, that is your total armor with toughness. Also, judging from your trait allocation, I will assume that this is for PvE purposes. Since this is for PvE purposes, what will benefit you the most is TOTAL damage (not BURST damage). In terms of total damage, the priority goes like this: Power > Precision > Crit Dmg >>> Condition Dmg for guardians. So yeah, that is going to be a lot of transmuting.
In terms of group support, you have a strong support build already. The only suggestion to making it stronger would be to utilize staff over GS or completely dump AH and invest 20 points into Virtue for the boon duration and other group supportive skills. Depending on what runes you are using, it may be possible to output more support by a rune change.
In terms of upping your damage, I would change your armor to Berserker instead of the knight or soldier’s you are using now. If you are willing to use Empowering Might you can drop your toughness considerably since you will receiving far greater healing with EM.
Just change a couple traits and some of your gear to be more group friendly:
1) Give toughness to everyone around you
2) Give VoR to everyone around you
3) Keep your armor the same but give yourself more healing (500 would be nice, because it would heal everyone around you for 650 every dodge roll).
Don’t ever be fooled… Blind = no damage. AoE blind = a lot of damage mitigation for you group.
Why do you think we ~love~ necro wells so much?
It’s not perfect but I think your build is something like this (for attributes)
So, trying to stay as close to 2860~ Effective Power…
I like Zeal for having Fiery Wrath so your damage should be equal or more than your current setup, and Greatsword and Symbols enhancements as well as the Spirit Weapons traits, as I find them invaluable to group support (Shield and Bow).
Another option that I find even better for groups is this: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/guardian/?3.0|c.1n.0.d.1n.0|b.1n.0.e.1n.0|1c.71j.1c.71j.1n.71j.1c.71j.1c.71j.1c.71j|1n.67.1c.61.1c.61.1c.61.1c.61.1c.67|0.u000.0.u000.a0|0.0|0.0.0.0.0|e
It uses one handers though, but you can get 50% crit chance with Right Hand Strength and the Honor line is free from the Symbol enhancements traits to get you Shouts, Empowering Might and/or Protective Reviver/Resolute Healer and Battle Presence. The damage for 1v1s and skirmishes with this build is by far one of the best.
For PvE it allows Virtue of Justice spam with Virtues 10 for Master of Consecrations or Unscathed Contender for the Scepter’s and hard dungeons.
Also works well in WvW, even though people say the Scepter sucks, it’s our only ranged option and with Immobilize, it helps your team get some kills easier.
You can also try any variations of the above to get the stats closer to what you want…
Although I don’t like the interface on this Calculator, here’s the build I’ve been running since Pre Launch.
My thing has always been to be able to solo content, but when someone else comes around, I don’t have to make drastic changes to feel more useful. While I’ve switched the weapons from time to time, this trait set up can easily be modified to accommodate other weapons, just by switching the actual traits around, and not having to respec. Using the greatsword should be pretty standard. Everytime you crit, with a 5 second cooldown, you gain vigor. AH triggers. you’ve used AH before, so that should be familiar. The staff+AH is just ridiculous in groups, but the staff is decent for wave damage whilo solo’ing as well.
The gear is just to boost your damage passively. Pow/Tough/Vit gear is arguably the “best” gear for a Guardian, IMO. This is because Guardians hav a garbage base health pool, I believe it’s the lowest in the game. Retributive armor let’s you stack defense and gain crit chance. Mind you, this doesn’t have ascended gear, but the concept is the same. Soldier’s runes works well with shouts, and alleviates the main weakness of the Guardian, which is conditions.

This is another build that someone else created, I tried it, I personally didn’t like it to much, not enough power for me, but that’s the great thing about it; you can tailor it to fit your needs. hope this helps a bit, sorry I’m longwinded :p
