I feel cheated
Some player skills are unblockable as well, but it’s not the end of the world. You can easily learn which attacks cannot be blocked in order to dodge them instead of the ones that can be ignored in other ways.
Blinds only have a 10% duration on champions as I recall, and you probably got hit with something that had multiple attacks (hence going through your blocks or aegis). In any event, you can’t facetank Champions solo. You kite them with Scepter.
Champions are not meant to be fought by yourself anyway. They’re tuned for groups.
You weren’t cheated, you are just (seemingly) beginning your journey.
I also believe you may have been hit with a strong, multiple hit attack, which makes it look as if you were one-shotted (there will be many similar attacks throughout the game.) It doesn’t mean that Toughness didn’t work for you. Those attacks are to be avoided rather than resisted/absorbed, IMHO. Also, that very Champion will be much easier with full Toughness gear, level 80 (downscaled)-I doubt you had maximum armor/toughness for your level in any case?
You will end up tanking at higher levels.
But we dont use the expression “tank” we use “control”.
Because you will be able to hold mobs attention to you and you’ll have to learn how to mitigate and actually use skills to self heal/self sustain.
Unblockable skills were added in a recent patch specifically, I suspect, because champions were so easy to solo in with a guardian.
As previous posters have noted, champs often have some resistance to blind. Their biggest weakness, however, is how clearly they telegraph their attacks, making dodging your most powerful utility against them. ( you can use protection and reflection/absorbtion aswell depending on the type of mob you are facing )
“Tanked” Kohler last night. Didnt even mean to. Everyone just sort of drifted to the back and line o sighted him.
Popping aegis in the middle of his spin (if i missed the dodge) allows me to survive it. Just an example of how champs can be dealt with in certain scenarios. Prob coulda kept going with him on my own lol
one thing to note is many bosses, though i don’t remember the one you mentioned, that have attacks that hit multiple times. blinds, apart from being less effective, will only have their next one attack miss. same with aegis and blocks. their next one attack will be blocked. so if it’s a 5 hit multi-hit attack, even with aegis and blinds, you’ll still get hit. so you’ll just learn the tells of what attacks you can just use block, or blind them, or have to dodge. : ))
don’t be disheartened. a lot of times when doing dungeons, per se, where you’ve learned the boss mechanics a bit better. or telling from what skills they have under their names sometimes, you’ll soon pick up what you can just pop aegis to block or use a blind or even interrupts to help mitigate dmg. of course dodging is always the safest.
