Stick with the 10/25/0/10/25 build since it has the better support and dps and you will be learning the class properly. I find the hammer build is stronger in fractals though which is 15/25/0/20/10 (max dps), 15/15/0/20/20 (more condition removal), or 15/15/10/20/10 (more armor for team).

Get zerker trinkets and weapons and a set of exotic knights armor should be enough to keep you up at first and will ease your transition to full zerker. For runes I just use beryl on mine when I use it (I use it to draw aggro on some fractal bosses so people can just melee behind it and kill it faster and safer). Ranger runes would be the best choice if you want more dps instead of a bit of survivability the beryl orbs would give for the knights set. Full zerk + scholar runes would be optimal. Soldiers gear just isn’t worth it unless you fight a lot of open world bosses you can’t crit or something like that.

If you can keep your HP up, Zerker + Scholar runes are the best for damage (even better if you can keep from getting hit to keep aegis and Unscathed Contender up). Knight’s are poor man’s Zerker or for learning. Soldier’s are only useful for mobs with anti-crit mechanics. I think Ogre runes give more DPS over Ranger (http://gw2buildcraft.com/ gives more effective power when slotting Orgre) but I’m not 100% sure.

10/25/0/10/25 is fine for dps

I found much more usefull to go full zerk and scholar runes just against bosses or small groups.
Against large groups of trash mobs (ex. Ascalon, Dredge etc.) I’d strongly suggest to go with defensive armor (weapons and trinkets still zerk) because in high end fotm they hit pretty hard and you won’t have enough damage mitigation even with perma vigor.

Ogre Runes might be better than Ranger Runes if you only have 916 Power. Once you start using gear, there is absolutely no scenario in which ogre runes are better than ranger runes.
Scholar in non-less reflect situations, ranger in medium-high reflect situations. Although there are situations (very high power, rather low precision) where ranger runes are better than scholar runes even without reflects.

I would go with Strife’s anchor build if new to guardian: 0-0-30-30-10 with knight’s armour (soldier runes) and berserker trinkets.

If you are experienced, I’d go with 15-15-0-20-10 with the remaining 10 points dependent on your play style. I personally run with 15-15-0-30-10 which I borrowed from a friend. With this latter build you will run everything berserker with scholar runes.

I run both dungeons and high level fractals with guard.

Regardless of which build you decide to go with, you must do your duty as a guardian and not be a confused warrior wannabe. For this reason you must bring party support in the form of condi removal, blinds, reflects, etc.
