Nah, you could really just call Smite a “Symbol” for purposes of adding flavor and allowing it the benefit of traited Symbols. Keep the hammer effect and everything; simply make it a Symbol for classification purposes.
Zealot’s Defense is easy because you adjust the Symbol to block and give some damage ticks. The skill is already a DPS loss compared to Sword #1 so you only use it as a utility anyway—even then, you hardly use it.
You didn’t understood that with the scepter
Smite actually hits a phe times a second – which is extremelly usefull in some situations (mentioned fractal)
and making it a symbol-type of skill didn’t just add benefits from traited symbols – it will also adjuste the damage ticks to the ones that symbol has – so actually we could on that boss take a staff and drop on him symbol of swiftness – same effect.
Yeah of course I have same thoughts on smite as You some time ago (just because I’m heavily traited on symbols) but then I realized how important for our role in some dungs is that smite IS NOT a symbol….

So the change of smite to a symbol (if they keep the singletarget damage on the same level) would be more than just great. It wasn’t at all clear to me what he was trying to say. And anyway, an overall buff is still an overall buff. Smite would benefit from being a Symbol is every situation I can think of. That someone might be able to conjure up a situation where it wouldn’t—well, it’s still a buff overall.
Smite hits rapidly over the duration. Symbols would only tick damage once per second. i think is the difference. but with Smite, if it’kittenting multiple enemies, the damage gets spread out. though, it’s great for proccing on-crit effects or passive VoJ, which a symbol cannot AS readily provide.
i would love for each weapon set to have symbols. then i won’t always be playing mace only for symbol builds. though i love the mace itself. heh.
i think sword 2 would be kinda neat for a symbol. cause it’s a tele gap closer, and the symbol only pops when you land your hit (if it’s blocked or blinded, does it still drop?) so the symbol is placed directly on your opponent. whereas with sword 3, a lot of times good enemies will know to dodge out of it already so the symbols effect is kind of half loss – though of course, you can always use your other skills to reign ’em back in.

yeah because (at least on levels which I’m playing) It’s all about rapidness of attacks.
EDIT: lol movie when one guardian is placing smite on boss and rest of party just ingores it isn’t any proof really – the whole trick was two guardians two smites and whole party stands with shield of the avenger actually on the boss – in this was these just to smites is enought to take bauble down in a phew seconds…..

I would like to see a symbol on Sword, not sure how it would be worked in though. 2 and 3 abilities are pretty nice, although they 3 should allow some movement. Maybe a symbol on 2 that pops immobilize where you land, IDK.

@Cpt Aurellian I don’t see anything on that video eccept that one guardian is catsing smite on the “blobed” boss and rest are just ignoring it. rest is unreadable.
oh and if smite doesn’t remove stacks so….
maybe tell me HOW actually we got that stacks down in a phew seconds with mainly smites then?

Scepter symbol could apply 1 second of chill, but would otherwise work the same… Making it multi target would probably make it OP
I think I prefer the way it works currently if it means it keeps the rapid fire/high damage potential against a single target, rather than a 1 second tick medium damage AoE

That’s why I suggest you don’t change smite into a symbol – you have smite + a symbol that chills dropping in the same location ( ie the symbol itself does no damage at all )
Well to solve the sword issue, you can always have it drop a symbol at the end of blinding flash and give fury or might.
I’m sure some adjustments would have to be made for balance.
For Scepter: Why not the autoattack? Have it explode a one second symbol upon impact. Will have to lower the damage to balance it.

Scepter attack speed is 0.8 seconds, so a symbol wouldn’t gel too well – you only really get symbols at the end of attack chains, having so many created in a short space of time would probably be a real mess ( unless you stick a 10% chance to proc on it )

make scepter auto-atack chain like some profession have
for example something like this:
1. orb of wrath
2. another orb – maybe something quicker?
3. place symbol (centered on enemy or player – not sure which would be better) that chills foes and grants something to the allies
what do You think about that?
