(Idea) Equipt Spirit Weapons
It would definitely make them not useless.
Painbow.6059: Ignore what anyone else who doesn’t agree with me has said because its wrong.
That depends. Conjured weapons are also generally frowned upon by eles (except using the bow on graveling burrows). Utility slots are a premium across the board, and they have way better alternatives. The same goes for Guardians.
The idea does sound interesting. But if they cannot make the basic minion mechanic good and useful, what makes you think the environmental weapon version would be any different?
I want it to make sense right away, then another sense later. Murkiness =/= quality "

i i agree with Heinel to a certain extent. it’s tough to give up all utilities for weapon skills. so if they do, they really have to be something that is worth the exchange. and balance must be found so they do not compete with the Guardian elites skills – of which two sort of do the same thing.
but interesting nonetheless. hopefully the Spirit Weapons do get reworked in the future.

If the bow did damage, might be a real option for some range if they did this.
Would be a great option for the bow to offer us a better ranged utility, the others im not quite so sure about. But then again I don’t even use the spirit weapons with the exception of the sword for a bit of fun
Nice idea.
Using them as pet or equipped sounds too powerfull. Using the environmental weapon (or engineer’s weapon kits) concept is probably not unique enough.
2)Guardian summons Spirit Weapon and uses it in hand as an environmental weapon for the duration.
.
Reminds me of GW1 Ritualist’s weapon spells .
What if it would give allies (and the guardian) some kind of effect similar to a virtue or a boon? It could provide the effect to nearby allies on activation and be “summoned” back to the guardian to give only the guardian a greater benefit (which may be other skills).

I’d rather them just buff them so they aren’t terrible pets. If they don’t do that, my only other suggestion would be to just turn them into buff cooldowns.
The sword one would transform your current sword into a spirit sword and cause you to deal extra damage. The hammer would transform your hammer/mace to give extra crit. Shield to give toughness. The bow could be changed into scepter/staff Things like that. Then you could use the utility again while the buff was active to unleash the secondary effect like the hammer knockdown.
Would be kind of boring, though. I like the idea of having the spirit weapons be pets if they actually made them worth using.

What if you don’t have a sword?
Then you would use the others? Spirit sword for sword/greatsword, spirit hammer for hammer/mace, bow one would be replaced with something for staff/scepter, shield for shield/focus/torch.
Yes, it would mean the utilities would require specific weapons, but I think it would be better than what the current spirit weapons are.
Would rather they fixed staff/scepter for ranged rather than having to rely on a 20 second environmental weapon to be able to hit crap further than 130 units reliably. I would much rather they go back to the old way. We don’t need more minions – the long cooldown that didn’t trigger until time-out/demise of the current spirit weapon was enough of a penalty imo. Their attack was too slow, and the AI too dumb to handle any mass situation… it was that invulnerability that backed up with the utility if you traited into the 60 points it took to make them useful for certain situations. I want it back that way rather than just another set of minions or environmental weapons like other classes have.
