All kidding aside, just something I threw together very late last night, and after 3hrs of GvG and Drinking…

It did get me thinking this morning and I put together a build I think will actually work… even in larger scale fights where I’m being focused down.

Will post it once I get some footage and review.

But in the meantime, enjoy some Condi Fun

kind of excited for it but also bummed, because it looks like it is reliant on asuran traits. So its more of an asuran build than a guardian build.

On the strength of your vid, I tried a comedy build with a mess of Rabid and Carrion gear, Perplexity, Geomancy and Generosity and spec’d for blinds, interrupts and immobilises ( Signet of Wrath, Pain Inverter and Technobabble )
I did find it quite entertaining ( expecially downing Necros using conditions! ) – you get a definite sense of people going “wtf?!”.

On the other-hand I found it quite an awkward play style, so I’m not sure I could stomach it for any length of time ( and I’m sure people will wise up soon, or it’ll get nerfed ).

i was surprised to see Bane (again as much as i love it too) but the knockdown and confusion adds to it i guess. ; ))

very fun to watch and looking forward to seeing what you’ve been cooking up.

I think it is worth noting that the addition of confusion dramatically changed the damage potential of guardians with conditions.

Confusion goes well with retaliation as they will get hit for using the skill and then hitting you as well, stacked together with burning causes heavy hitting conditions that take out chunks of life at a time.

This is sort of gimicky as we don’t have the means to do this without asuran traits or runes of perplexity, so our class doesn’t promote it as well as it could, as far as I can see. but it is a working build that is catching people off guard

It just goes to show that we need something else on top of burning to make conditions viable for us.

As usual, really awesome video.

On the d/d Elementalist duels you really did a great job of saving your condi-burst to after they switched to water. Also the use of signet knockdown and technobabble in conjunction with Runes of Perplexity was a really great idea, so kudos there.

I didn’t see any fights against anyone heavy condition, so I am wondering in this build how you fair against other condition specced classes?

For Dueling:

I got worked 7 times in a row by a Condi (S/S + Bow) Warrior. lol Just didn’t have enough Condi removal and Healing.

I also got beat up pretty bad by the new meta-interupt-confusion Engi.

Stunlock warriors weren’t an issue, there’s enough HP to eat up a 100b.

Outside of that, I didn’t get a chance to duel a necro/ranger/thief.

CMF:

Wardings – Shield – Chains. They all can interrupt.

Take a look at the Open Field, I slowed it down just to show that aspect.

As for the dmg, that was excatly my thought process behind the build: Burn, Retal, Confusion… then added in Bleed on Crit and Bleed on Wpn Swap (along w/ Vuln from Scepter) for some coverage.

wards I knew could interrupt, but that is usually bypassed by most, still gets a few people with multiple knockdowns.

shield of course is a knock back and interrupts, also well known.

chains on the other hand I didn’t know could interrupt, I’ll have to go back and look at that. I know on mobility moves people will just jump up and down in location or charge in one spot, so unsure which moves it could interrupt.

I was going back and watching and I don’t think the bleeds were crucial in your damage, most of the damage came from retal/confusion/burning. That typically happened when you had pain inverter lined up with a good interrupt like bane or technobabble, or like you mentioned the rogue who kept falling over line of warding

the next question is, will the interrupt happen even if they are not casting/using an ability? were you trying to time it, or just use it on feel? I’m pretty sure the only interrupts you can get are during ability usage, but in your vid it looked like they were doing nothing and you got an interrupt causing confusion stacks.

Maybe swap out that earth sigil for something else? condi removal on crit? heal on swap? Still room for testing.

Bleeds can add up and it wasn’t difficult to get 5-6 bleeds: its still 500+dmg per sec…

Timing Chain interrupt is tricky, most people cast chains and immediately pull… I’ve found they are best used preemptively…. they add a nice dot and if you wait 1-2 ticks you can usually get them while they’re casting an ability… causing an interrupt.

I used bane when I expect them to use something. With the cast time on it, you really need to have a good feel for the flow of what’s going on: they’re casting a 1s ability and our cast time is 1s… going to be near impossible to interrupt if you wait for them to start to cast…. just takes an understanding of the classes abilities and their rotations is all.

Yes, the issue w/ this build is the lack of condi removal… though it does have 3 condi’s removed every 10s from having improved signets. =]

I think the bleed has it’s uses – mainly because it’s largely free to apply and stack and it helps waste opponent’s condition removal. On my build I ran with sceptre, shield and hammer with bleeds on the 1-handers and generosity on the hammer. I frequently saw 5 conditions on opponents with that setup and occasionally 6.

4 “passive” condi removals every 10 secs was enough in many encounters ( Perfect Inscriptions, Purity and Generosity ), but still pretty useless against condi spammers.

I could really see a guardian using a hammer and staff with perplexity runes REALLY rack up the confusion on a zerg. That would be very interesting.
