Incoming Guardian Nerf?
Well if they do nerf those skills, they better buff something else up!
Numerically speaking the guardian is in a very good spot. The biggest offenders of the AOE imbalance is Fireball vs Chain Lightning on the ele. Fireball does more damage AND hits more targets. That’s likely what they’re referring to.
I want it to make sense right away, then another sense later. Murkiness =/= quality "

There’s no reason to nerf Guardian AOE because they have serious drawbacks.
- Greatsword AOE requires you to be in melee range. That isn’t going to happen zerg vs zerg.
- Scepter and Staff AOE does poultry amount of damage.
Classes like Elementalist have long-range spammable AOE skills.
Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
Poultry AoE is getting nerfed? I mean if its just chickens I get it. But ducks and geese? They can’t be serious!
As I read it, they are just talking common sense. A single target skill should do more damage to a single target than an AoE does on that single target. An AoE skill on multiple targets should do more damage than burning them down one by one with single target damage. Where that’s not the case, expect to see changes.
Wow you guys sure are being smartkittenseses. Obviously that was a typo. He meant the pantry attacks where you shoot out crackers and spices and coffee beans and tea leaves. Give the guy a break.
No one enjoys [it]. No one finds it fun.” —Colin J.
I meant paltry, but being able to throw chickens around sounds more interesting.

Adding launchable fowl can only be an improvement to the staff.
I picture smite’s animation as a swarm of chickens slamming your enemies instead of otherworldly fists, and I am amused.
I don’t know, you ever fight those Risen chickens? They could use a nerf.
I wouldn’t mind a Hundred Blades nerf.
I’m not bitter… :P

PvE Staff Elementalist here with no reason to post other than to say I lol’d profusely. GG

That’s not how I read it. Although I agree with what you are saying and what they are trying to get at. I’ve always thought it was extremely weird how some AoEs are much stronger than single target skills. However, to me they are saying they are simply going to nerf the damage done by AoE and NOT boosting single target skills.
Like I said though, if they are going to nerf any of the Guardian AoEs they better have something good in mind for other skills in return or there’s going to be a bad DPS change here.
If they nerf damage across the board then that’d automatically be a buff to guardians. The slower the damage comes, the stronger healing power is.

They also mentioned that they’ll be looking at fixing up the weaker weapons and traits across the board. I’m really hoping Guardian gets buffed up in that department.
Kaimoon Blade – Warrior

Guardian is like the Dervish of GW1.
Always a buff, never a nerf.
Man I loved that class.
They will probably be doing AoE nerfs across the board, if not, then they better prepare for a lot of rage from eles and such.
Everyone is bad but me.
Anet ruined Gw2.
I doubt the melee AoE attacks will suffer much, if at all. They’re referring more to ground target AoE.

I love it when people look at the WHOLE picture instead of just a portion.
+1
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]

I wouldn’t put too much hope in that.
I want to but it doesn’t seem likely does it?….

Half my builds use right hand strength anyway, I’m looking forward to a change like this

Staff does pretty ok dmg if you are traited/built right. Not saying you should quit your current build and go staff/staff, but it’s better than “poultry”.
I want to but it doesn’t seem likely does it?….
The thing is, we’ve gotten vague lines like: “We’re not happy with the Scepter,” and all that netted us was a (rather useless) range increase. So unless I see announcements for specific changes, I’m not putting any effort into anticipating them.
I could see our hammer and GS getting hit due to their AoE #1, #2, and #3.
No AoEs to nerf on guardians, no worries.
I have a hard time thinking of a profession that will be less affected by AoE nerfs than the Guardian.

Dagger/Dagger Thief
Oh no. Nerf to Guardian AoE damage incoming… wait a second…. What AoE damage? Scepter maybe? Oh no…
We has Scepter?
If they nerf WW or Mighty Blow, there is really no point to the class any more.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Except the massive healing and utility, and other weapons.. but I mean, those don’t matter, right?

It’s obvious hyperbole (at least I hope), but weakening Whirling Wrath and Mighty Blow would be a big hit to the profession. If they’re only good as combo-enablers, the weapons become less viable.

Elementalists have almost ALL aoe skills. they all have considerable cooldowns.
Elementalist damage is also pathetic because 30 water is required due to terrible innate survivability.
targeted AoE or passive AoE? i just don’t see how we could get nerfs…
thinking of greatsword in particular all our skills are AoE in that they hit multiple targets, but only the symbol is technically a true on the ground AoE. so either we get a reduction to everything or a reduction to the symbols which imho are not even close to needing a nerf.
i think the whole concept of nerfing AoE skills to make them non-viable vs single targets will remove the effectiveness of many, many skills (depending on what it affects) and since we already only have 10 weapon skills, that leaves almost nothing. combat could be pretty kitten boring. if i have to spam 1 because WW and other AoE is only viable vs multiple enemies i’m quitting.

Most of the other weapons are really sub par.
WW and Mb are what make Guardian fun.

Massive healing? Do we play the same game?
Massive healing is what monks have in GW.
WW and MB have absolutely 0 chance to get nerfed.

What are you smoking, guardian has only been recieving nerfs and no buffs.
If they even think of touching our greatsword/hammer skills im quitting the class, and there isnt another class I enjoy

In the recent livestream (http://dulfy.net/2013/01/17/gw2-dev-livestream-jan-17-transcript/), the devs noted that they will be toning down AOE damage in favor of single-target damage.
“Reducing AoE effectiveness to bring them in line with the single target damage skills.”
“Major update coming to all the AoE skills – make classes that are good at single target damage stand out a bit more.”
It’s quite hilarious that at a time when mesmers and thieves are dominant, the devs are boosting single target damage. #wrongtarget
I can see myself getting 2 shot by a thief a lot more often if they’re going to up single target damage…Maybe its time to whip out the sword and torch and start spitting fire at people.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”

What did they nerf? the GS switch between symbol and leap?
I can’t recall how anything we got, been significantly nerfed to the point of “omg”.
Personally, I play all classes, they all got their appeal as long as they have viable builds, and right now I play guardian, thief, warrior and engineer.
Anet going to buff other classes and nerf guarding? go for it, will just switch around.
Don’t worry guardians. Eles are the ones that are going to be nerfed to smithereens. oh yeah i wouldnt be surprised if they nerf engis some more too

touché.
but i guess if GS is nerfed i’ll have even more reason to switch to a hammer now.

This would only be the case if they nerfed mob damage as well, which I don’t think will happen at all. Anet’s just making PvE suck even more and more with every patch in favor of WvW and SPvP

Lol so true, they say that AOEs need to be balanced, and aren’t saying jack crap about a thief being able to kill me in 1 strike. And they also address the Engineer as “a perfectly balanced class” MY kitten /p>
Just fought a few professions today in a duel and found some interesting facts. Rangers Troll Unugent, which is on a 25 second cool down, heals for 10-12k.. This to me is insane. Symbol of resolve is on a 40sec cd healing for 8.5k. Does anyone here see a problem with this? Guardians are still the most immobile profession, requiring one to stand still for paltry benefits while others have free mobility along with boons. I still can’t wrap my head around this. There are other issues that I see but another Guardian nerf? I’d be very surprised and insulted at the same time.

I don’t know why you’re insulted. It takes 10 seconds for TU to apply its heal. It’s a heal over time. You could be dead before you get the full effect. Heals over times don’t save lives, burst healing does.

That couldn’t be more from the truth. What do you Guardians AH is? It’s very similar. HoT will save your life quite a bit if you’re not running a glass cannon build. This is especially true if your target decides to retreat or just dodge whatever you may have.
Edit: I’m just pointing out what I believe to be a really powerful skill. Any smart ranger will just pop it at 75% health as they’re fighting you.
Edit #2: Also you might want to reread. I stated I would be insulted by another Guardian nerf, not the ranger heal.
