Q:

Just as title indicates. I have traited inner fire and when used with torch #4, I don’t get a fury icon in my buff bar. Anyone else notice this as well? Is there another way to see if you get Fury when you trigger torch #4 with inner fire?

A:

The description for the trait is a bit misleading. You gain fury when you have the burning debuff on you, not when you actually set yourself on fire using the torch skill.

You get fury when you’re inflicted with the Burn status.

The tooltip is misleading.

Additionally, if what I’ve heard is correct, the Fury only lasts for 3 seconds. Suffice to say, it’s an underwhelming trait that’s rarely used.

Tooltip: “Set yourself alight…”

Trait: “When you are set on fire…”

I understand the confusion; however, you must be burning for it to trigger. ArenaNet could fix it with a simple change to the trait: “whenever you begin burning…” As Zealot’s Fire does not give you the burning condition, that should make it more clear.

Or just rework the talent because it’s kitten.

K thanks all … in the end I dumped the idea I had … even though the sword/torch still has the most PVE damage I’ve seen for farming so far.

I really hope ANET originally wanted the trait to synergyze with the Torch skill because really, the Radiance tree is all about them 1-handers. It makes sense and it’s thematically appropriate. If the duration is really only 3 seconds then I don’t see how they could not change it to work with the Torch skill, just so that there’s some temptation to ever use it and make a build that doesn’t include 30 Valor and 30 Honor.

Very situational, but I wonder how effective AH would be combined with fury on burn effect would be. Granted AH would only heal for about 70-75 and the burn would be doing 200-600-ish depending on condition damage.

But you could get a few stacks of burn on yourself and cleanse them off before they tick.

Not that a lot of things apply burning like that.

I havent really noticed any survivability increase from it. However it does come in handy vs other guardians and eles. other than that it is kinda meh just because only a couple classes use burn a decent amount.

I run a 0/30/0/20/20 build with RHS and Empowering Might and Buff Duration runes and I’ve found this trait very good in certain fight in PvE where you know ahead you will see a lot of burning. Don’t forget that Fury stacks duration and kicks so if you can pack a lot of condition removal and get burned often you can get you Fury to 30 seconds easily, which synergize pretty well with Empowering Might and RHS.

Might not be a trait you slot everyday but it’s not bad

Situational traits are never worth it, unless the situation occurs very often. (See: Altruistic Healing)

There are way better traits in Radiance than one that grants fury when receiving a VERY SPECIFIC condition. Imagine if Altruistic Healing only triggers of Might boons…nobody would even give it a chance.

It’d be better if Inner Fire triggers off ANY condition, but I think since this isn’t a serious bug or issue, the fix will not be forthcoming.
