Q:
Is There Anyway to Get the Starter Pauldrons?
A:
Of course you can. The transmute trick works fine for it. Do it all the time. Make a guardian with the shoulders, buy a white shoulderplate, transmute the stats of the white shoulderplate onto the skin, pop it in your bank and hey presto you can use it on your main. Not just your main, any heavy armor character – my warrior has the guardian shoulders.

No. Most, if not all, of the profession specific starting gear have unique skins that can’t be found anywhere else. With the newest blog post, I’m hoping that the new chests being added that have profession specific gear will have these skins included to help out the people who trashed them without understanding how rare they are.
I wonder if you can use the old transmute trick. Create a new guardian, transmute that pauldron onto a white or blue item and make it account bound rather than soul.

That’d probably be your only chance at getting it if there is one. Unfortunately it isn’t an option for me since I decided to fill up all of my character slots on release day, banking on the assumption we’ll get GW1 style birthday presents. Unless, of course, I buy a character slot :P
Yes the transmute trick does work. You could have a warrior with guardian symbols on the armor.

Umm…this is flat out wrong. As long as you have a free character slot, you can just reroll the same class and transmute the item onto a white piece of gear, then transmute it to your main.
If you don’t have transmute stones, you always get them for exploring your home town or starter zone 100%.
Keep in mind you will need to level your guard to 11 (I think) before being able to transmute shoulder armor.

Nope, I’ve transmuted a thief hood at level 1 before. You don’t need to wait so long as you have the transmute stones.
The lowest level shoulders are 11

Yes, this was pointed out. I thought of editing my post to speculate about whether transmuting would work after I made it, but someone had already confirmed it by then.
Although it is still technically true that you can’t get that skin with that same character. Not everyone has a free charater slot

Even if you can’t wear it, you can still transmute it.

Hmm tried the other day (those shoulders specifically) and it wouldn’t let me at level 2. I’ve done it successfully with a level 2 thief hood for my 80 ranger..the only difference was I was able to get level 2 headgear. Guess I will try again.
Were you using the correct armor class? You can transmute any level to any skin but not across armor types. Also, the armor you were transmuting may have had an upgrade (rune, crest, gem, whatever) that had a level requirement. That can also prevent you from transmuting.
