Guild Wars 2

It’s all in the title. I love my guardian but i’m not sure how accepted they are in raids at this point. And I’d rather not be shoehorned into being the tank if I can help it.

My experience so far is that guardians are mostly accepted only as tanks via lfg – simply because there are so many people looking for a raid group. Even as a tank you would have competition with other classes.
My feeling is right now, that a lot of lfg-groups try to get the top dps-classes in order to increase the chance for the kill – which is not wrong, but bad for guardians – as much it hurts me to say it (also maining – nearly exclusivly – a guardian). But i hope in time everyone will get more experience in killing those bosses so that the preferences for which class one should bring will be diminishing – as long as all roles are filled.

I totally agree with this. Though it does get worse because the 2nd boss requires so much DPS that I don’t even think Guardian is viable at all on it outside of the tank role. And the tank role is done better and is more fun to play as an Elementalist which I tried once my raid group decided that we needed to stack DPS for Gorseval.

My fears that I had when Revenant was being shown to be a better Guardian than a Guardian I thought were put to rest these past 4 weeks but with raids I think they were justified and I don’t believe Guardian has much purpose (neither does Thief or Necromancer).

Just go rev. Power Herald using the same armor trinkets and runes as a DH. So it’s easy to swap your ascended stuff around between the 2. Heralds are also highly loved in groups and are quite fun in PVE.

I’ve had a pretty positive experience finding a place in raid squads.

People normally want a guardian/DH for their DPS. I’ll normally be placed on green duty (getting to the green AoE). I can sit in longbow for an entire Vale Guardian fight and do great DPS. This makes it easier for me to get to green and help kill the boss. This also makes it less stressful for healers because I can avoid a lot of damage because I’m not near the boss. Just gotta be careful of seekers.

TLDR:
Guardians are actually pretty good in any of the tank/dps/condi roles (not sure about healer) because sustain is more important for total raid dps than most people would admit. HOWEVER; the LFG crowd is stuck on a “might + top tier dps” kick right now. So if you want to get Raid groups outside of your guild, you’re probably MUCH better off right now leveling Revenant and moving your ascended zerk gear over.

Ok, on to my 2cents:
We went into Vale Guardian last night and were messing around with different strategies/comps that we wanted to use later to help new “learning groups” in our Guild.

One attempt we took 1 tank, 2 heals, 7dps instead of the typical 1 tank 1 heal 8dps and our total dps actually INCREASED. We started hitting 6:30 first split with ease even with a couple people still making mistakes (like getting ported). At first it didn’t make any sense… why would dropping a dps for another healer spec result in better dps? But after a few more tries, it started to become clear: Two healers meant the other 7 dps all had more scholar rune up-time and weren’t having to worry about self sustain at all. They could concentrate completely on dps.

So the takeaway for me was:
Trying to eek out max dps from every character (maybe your tank wears mostly zerk gear and just a couple pieces of toughness to try to keep his DPS up, or your healer wears mostly zerk to try to keep their dps up) probably isn’t the best way to approach Vale Guardian. In that fight, group sustain indirectly contributes to raid DPS in almost the same way that Might or Vuln does.

It should be obvious to most that Guardian is good in the tank role for that fight since you can give out a strong regen, protection, and aegis to all of the melee, but if you’re filling a dps or condi role, you still have access to sustain as well.

Unfortunately, that sort of mentality isn’t going to catch on with the LFG raid population any time soon. They’re focused completely on “can you stack might?” or “can you break a break bar solo every 10 seconds?” or “need 3 engi’s for condi team”.
So if you’ve already got ascended Zerk gear and want to get into LFG raids, you’re almost certainly going to have an easier time leveling a Revenant and moving your gear over.

with the current pvp QQ going… Guardians most likely going to see a nerf not a buff :P but i suspose we’ll wait and see what really happens… i mean it shouldnt be nerfed.. in PvP its Not really that good, its just good for average MMR Solo queues and nothing realistically more ESL even proved that.

but as we see with the thief again and again… Anet have thrown Nerf hammers down based on General QQ threads, so the Guardian could be seeing the same treatment due to Dragonhunter.

I doubt its impossible to get into raids as a DPS Guardian, but its likely from the sounds of it hard to do without being in a guild, but i’d say stick around and see what happens in the end of it before u consider rerolling, it cant be long now for the Ranked PvP and big Balancing patch to realistically take place.

I doubt any nerf will come. People are finally realizing DH is mediocre in high level play. This bunker meta is killing DH’s.
