Kawsay Guardian (WWW)

Hello everyone. I never introduced myself formally, but I am Blasino. I posted my first build the Nina Guardian (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Nina-Guardian-WWW-build/first#post1423878) earlier and let fellow guardian improve it. I’ve learned alot, and applied that knowledge to my other builds (I have a third one in the works to hopefully I’ll share).

Side note: I get questions from others about the odd names I use for the builds and my characters that are annoying to type and hard to pronounce. Well my in-laws are Quechua and I’ve learned a little of the language. I pretty much use it for easy naming =). Uturunku = Jaguar. Yana = Black or Helpful. Nina = Fire. Kawsay = Life.

Also, I love statistics. I do my very best to max/min the stats and try to apply that same principle to other fellow guardian’s builds. I have a lot of nifty spreadsheets I created =). I like to help others with the math of this game as I get question from fellow players. I am human, so I make mistakes and I appreciate anyone who double checks my work.

As with the Nina build, I worked hard on the Kawsay Guardian and present it to the community for heavy critisim and ideas. There are players who are more skilled and I know can take my builds further then I ever could. The weakness of Nina is it does not utilize what Guardians are best at: support. My bunker/support/healing build I used to run lacked proper DPS. I have learned in WWW, dps should not be neglected. Generally, skilled groups would ignore me and go after my squadmates. On the flip side, we ignore the guardian and soon it becames a 5v1 battle. The final issue of my old bunker build was there isn’t a lot of offensive support. I was not using empowering might or able to spam VoJ on kills.

Also, I believe that, unless you are going full cleric’s, berserker’s, rampager’s, rabid, etc., stats like crit damage, condition damage, boon duration, and healing power should not take away from power, precision, toughness, and vitality. So I utilize using pieces that have the best stat ratios when it comes to those stats. In addtion, I’m not a fan of our virtue line. I’m not saying do not use it, or that it is useless, but I feel it has more negatives then positives especially when it comes to the stat lines it provides.

Finally, as I interact with more guardians, people play the profession not to DPS, but to support their teammates. My guildmates rather not play Nina and ask for a more supportive build.

So, I present to you the Kawsay Guardian build.

Traits:

Raidance: 15 VI
Valor: 20 V / VI
Honor: 30 II / VIII / XI
Virtues: 5

Skills Choices: Hold the Line, Stand Your Ground, Save Yourselves, Shelter, and Renewed Focus

Gear (Ascended loadout will come at a later date):

Knight’s – Helm, Chest, Legs
Cleric’s – Shoulders, Gloves, Boots, Amulet, Accessories
Soldier’s – Back w/ Exq Sapphire Jewel, Rings w/ Exq Sapphire Jewels, Greatsword, Sword/Focus
2 Runes of the Monk, 2 Runes of the Water, 2 Runes of the Holbrek
Sigils of Generosity, Sigil of Perception (off-hand)

Consumables – Omnomberry Pies, Oils

Stats with no Consumables or Sigil:

Attack: 2845 (2681)
Power: 1734
Critical Chance: 29%
Critical Damage: +20%
Armor: 3086
HP: 16205
Healing Power: 804
Boon Duration: +35% / +55% for Might

With consumables and full sigil your crit chance is 46%. Generally, with the Greatsword you can keep up 6-7 stacks of might and 4-5 with sword.

Healing numbers:

Passive VoR – 132
Active VoR – 2224
Dodge – 927
Regeneration – 230
Omnomberry Pies – 325
Shelter – 5118

Condition removal – Passive: Purity / Active: 3 Shouts (effects allies also), Sigil of Genorisity (techinically a transfer, which is even better), Ray of judgement (effects allies also)

Possible changes (can make as many of them you feel comfortable):

1) Switch out runes of the Holbrek and use Dwayna, Earth, or Sancutary instead.
2) Change empowering might to Writ of Persistence for additional retaliation.
3) If you want more healing power change your weapons to Cleric’s.
4) If you want more crit chance and armor change your weapons to Knight’s.
5) If you want more damage change your weapons to Berserker’s.

Dungeons – I’ve started to use this build in dungeons and it really puts the guardian in easy mode. Though you do not kill as fast, you really do not have to worry about survivability as much. I still prefer Nina for faster clearing.

I want to clarify this is not a DPS build, but you can do damage and get some decent numbers. Now, the build encourages to attack, as the pies help with your self healing. When using both weapon sets you are applying some might stacking to the group, healing yourself, blinding, and causing vulnerabilities. With the focus you add condition removal and regeneration. Attacking transfers conditions every 10 seconds or so. With the amount of healing you produce, your high armor, boons, blinds, and loads of condition removal you are still as bunker as you can be in www.

This build can be a front-line zerg breaker. I rarely zerg. Through requests from other guardians as to how it handles charging into a zerg, I tested it out. It works pretty dang well. An easy combo I use: run at the zerg, leap of faith, stand your ground, save yourselves, and shelter. Your scaled players who are new to www will down themselves through retal, other players will take some good damage, the smarter ones will stop attacking. All of those things are a win in my book.

Now the weakness of this build, it has only one type of CC and that is Binding Blade. I really wish I could use a shield, but the focus fits much better. It also has low crit damage for the amount of crit chance I have. I know the crit chance has other purposes, but it still bothers me! Finally, you have to attack. If you aren’t attacking you loose out on your survivability as a lot of your self healing comes from the pies.

If you were to roll with 2-3 guardians with this exact build it would be great. The amount of offensive and defensive support that they could stack on each other would create a juggernaut team.

I hope you enjoy it and please rip it apart. I only want to improve it in the end.

Sounds like an interesting built ! It’s awkward that i started considering doing something like that just this week haha :P Was bored for a awhile and just started thinking about builts and bang ! Started to try to change Chris’s Healway to something more bursty and see what kind of outcome i would get haha ! Really curious about that ! I do have a few questions though :o Hope i’m not being annoying haha

Is there any way we can get a video with footages ? :o

How much crit. chance do you get with just the Oils and the Pies? Around 35~40% ?

Do you feel like you have enough survivability to charge in forehead against a zerg ?

I’m assumign that power is with your Greatsword ? How do you feel about your damage output ?

Thanks for sharing by the way

Not annoying at all! Discussion is how we all learn.

I really wish I could do video footage of my gameplay, but I’m not equipped to do it at the moment. And to a lesser extent I may embarrass myself.

The crit chance w/o the sigil is 40%.

I’m not sure how this build will handle charging into a Zerg =).

You are correct, that is the power with greatsword, for Mace/focus its: 2630. The damage output is satisfactory. What hurts it is the low crit damage. From a numbers standpoint compared to the Nina build it does about 30-40% less. Of course Nina hits pretty hard. With the smaller burst, there is still the benefit of retal to help with damage. I want to use Sigil of Blood to increase the self healing and damage, but the Generosity is hard to give up once you start using it.

I forgot to mention, that if you had two of the builds together, it would be crazy has they would improve each other greatly with more might stacking from empowering might more group condition removal and more group healing.

LOL i know that feeling XD i just downloaded the program to record 1 day before shooting and just put everything together on moviemaker lolol ! Was scared people would complain too much about the quality D: And was afraid i would be doing something terribly wrong on the gameplay Q.Q

Indeed ! I wanted to mix some of my Furious Knight setup into Chris’s Healway. I found that built to have waaaay too much survivability and mine has too heavy burst so i wanted to meet somewhere halfway there haha :)

Anyway :P thanks for the quick reply !

I updated the build with an ascended load out. This was a pain since there are only so many different ascended gears. It was hard keeping to proper stat ratios.

It got a nice boost to DPS and healing and took a small hit to crit chance, armor, and hp.

It still ends up being a better deal in the end.

Updated build a little. I had to correct a Boon duration error.

Also I switched signet mastery to blind exposure and started to use sword and shelter. Reasons?

My survivalbility is pretty high and the extra healing from SoR was not needed. Shelter lets me utilize the skill in a way to stop combos from glass cannons in its tracks. I also think I’m improving my play with this build where the extra healing was not needed.

The switch to sword was a hard one, but it works better with the pies. And by using blind exposure I can put vulnerability on the enemy with both weapon sets. This just adds to offensive support for the group.

These changes I believe improves the build further.

very interesting build! and i love the names of the builds that you have. : )) nice to see that you’re tying in personal culture as well as seems most fitting for the Guardian profession.

at first gance the HP seemed a bit low for my taste, although when taken into account decent high healing power and your regen numbers (as well as various mitigation usage), it’s at a good spot.

love that you added “options” for those who may want to try things a little differently to suit their own playing styles.

@Elrond

I’m a huge fan of the hammer especially for bunkering and killing retaliation guardians. For me, I have trouble keeping up a decent amount of might stacks for my group and self-healing through the pies with the hammer and with the changes I loose the ability to add blinds and vulnerability for the group. I really wanted to use this weapon and the shield as I absolutely love them for WWW.

@akamon

Thanks for the comments =). I have a lot of AC tokens sitting around and I might get a set of P/V/T weapons and try them out. I think adding another 1,280 hp will help as a front line soaker in any zerg vs zerg fights. Recently I’ve found that because I can do descent damage I get people’s attention and then get focus-fired on. When I’m not dying, they start getting annoyed with me and then I really have their attention. This usually helps my side down them. I’m not always successful though, and I think that extra hp might help or I need to improve my gameplay.

So I have made some changes through a lot of testing yesterday (Thank you President’s day).

I switched to using Soldier’s Weapons. I am not a big fan of having a lot of HP because I feel it gets wasted; however, it does give you a peace of mind. Even with the extra 1,280 HP you can still effectively heal it all up. This means the health pool does not exceed the healing potential of this build.

Also, as noted above I started to use it to break zergs (which is surprisingly fun). This is the first time I’ve started to this, as I usually run small man ops in www. I ask that anyone that has better experience doing this with other builds could give me some pointers =). The combo I used above seemed to work pretty well.

Do to the change of the weapons, I need to redo the ascended loadout.

Changed Ascended loadout. I do not like the gear due to its limited stat combinations. I do not think its needed with this build for www purposes, but it is slightly stronger with it. In addition if you feel like the need for agony resistance. I only run lvl 10 fractals quickly for the daily without any agony resistance.
