Hey Guys
I’ve been a Thief main for a long time and picked up Daredevil when HoT came out.
Usually play WvW, sometimes PvP if I don’t find opponents roaming in WvW

I’m currently trying to figure out the new Especs and one opponent that caught my eye was DH… while noob DH’s are still easy to beat, I’ve found good DH’s to be quite a threat.

Not saying they are overpowered (also not saying that they’re not, I wouldn’t know at this point), I guess it’s mostly that I don’t know the important skills to dodge and combos to watch out for yet as DH is so new.

Any help would be appreciated.
I would go and give DH a try as that’s what I did with every other profession pre HoT in order to know how to beat them, however I don’t have too much time to play right now so I have to do that at some point in the future.

Try to out sustain the DH.

Traps are ridiculous right now. Dodge in/out of them when you can.

If a DH is using LB they’re very susceptible to melee attacks (imo) unless they have both their knock back and traps available to use.

Longbow 5 final hit and the trap elite skill both create a hammer 5 ring effect. Stand still!

The thing is… You Don’t fight against a DH with a thief. Just like before HoT release, you didn’t fight mediguards with thieves because they would destroy you

I have been beaten by an excellent DD thief in a 1v1. He essentially out-sustained me, coupled his bursts with stuns/dazes, and moved back out of my range whenever his burst was done. He saved his dodges specifically for my trueshots with longbow. I was not using traps here though, just standard medi. This thief beat me due to his patience and well-timed bursts.

It’s definitely possible to beat a DH. You have plenty of dodges as a DD to trigger traps, and get out. I would recommend unhindered combatant as your dodge just because of how far this skill will move you. If you try to burst a DH down early, it’s likely not going to end well for you.

I personally think DH with two traps, procession blade and test of faith, are the more ‘cheesy’ utilities at the moment. Mainly because the DH can lay his traps and sit in one spot to pew pew. It’s easy to dodge his LB skills but it’s also easy for the DH to camp till his traps trigger and/or come off cd.

Engaging
For a Thief, you have to be cautious at your initial engagements – attack when he’s in LB but not when he weapon switches to Sword or GS. A DH likely has a preplaced trap so prepare to disengage quickly at first, but engage almost immediately after traps finalizes.

Don’t wait too long when you disengage
All due to his traps getting off cd. He can stack them all back again, just waiting for you to come at him.

Know DH blocks
F3 Shield, maybe Shelter & Renewed Focus unless they use the Trap heals and dragon’s maw.

Know DH tricks
A good DH can use F1 to pull you inside their traps. They can also F3 leap (4k heal) towards their trap. If you know where they placed a healing trap, try to trigger it if the DH is already high in health.

In conclusion, pressure a dh as best as you can without taking trap damages. When you disengage, don’t do so for very long. Almost always try to burst during his weapon switch on Bow.

Easier said than done vs a good DH but it’s possible to win that 1v1 fight as a thief. GL!
