Folks,

I’ve been playing around with this “Legendary Guardian” build created by Nhymx from Tap Dat Mouse and would really like some thoughts from you all as to what I can do to better improve. The build in my link (and in the attachment) is based upon my current gear and somewhat limited because I can’t craft ascended armor and don’t have loads of gold available.

Legendary Guardian 3.0 Build Outline

CONCEPT-The basic idea of this build is to create a great amount of regen (more than the warrior signet), constantly apply blinds, have 4 dodge rolls every 10 seconds, almost ignore conditions, and maintain a high DPS on the target.

MY EXPERIENCE – I’ve been dueling and using this as a roaming build in WvW and I tend to get very well in 1v1 or 1v2 duels but I really struggle against being kited, LB Power Rangers, and a well geared Celestial D/D Ele.

Against LB Rangers - I keep trying to time my “Hold the Line” against Rangers but for some reason, I never am able to reflect their #2 LB ability. Perhaps a bug?

Against Celestial D/D Ele – I just don’t know how to lock them down or interrupt their healing well enough to overcome their massive amounts of regen. I can duel one almost endlessly but at some point, I just can’t maintain enough pressure to down them. I’m pretty sure this is a skill problem on my end and not from the build itself.

Against Kiting – Honestly, I’m at a loss here. Without Traveler’s Runes, I tend to feel rather slow in WvW and have been kited to death a few times by Rangers and even a Thief. Any suggestions?

OVERALL – I’m liking the build as it feels like I can go into almost any situation and be fairly effective but I’m not sure if the problems I’m having are all because of my poor skill or if there are holes in the build that I’m missing. Still, being able to do PvP, WvW, and some PvE questing with the same build/gear is a real nice bonus.

As stated by Ezrael Hold the line is not the best skill to be using on opening with a pew pew Ranger no reflect no blind no block a.k.a. not what you’re looking for. It’s better to time a block or Blind for their knockbackThis leaves you free to do your burst damage arrangers a very easy target is a guardian it’s just a matter of timing your skills for optimal affect and knowing that they can easily kite you you have to make your burst count.

Tiger D/D Ele Can be a harder class to fight simply because they have more sustained than you this is where it’s important to know their skills and what you should interrupt and when it’s appropriate to burst damage. A suggestion for helping you With both of these Classes and reducing players ability to kite you to improve your burst damage this can be easily done by simply taking off the blind sigil’s and putting on an Air And fire sigil On your weapons. An easy 1v1 build is meditation this being said meditation builds lack the utility of a shout build outside 1v1 and 1v2 They lack survivability. In small man fights the most important thing Is Tempo control. What is Tempo control You may be asking Higher mobility than your opponent More sustained Invisibility more Invulnerability Frames. What this allows you to do Is set the Tempo fight And in a sense fight on your terms. One has to recognize Which of these things does your class excel at and what Are they weak to. As a shout guardian our weakness is as stated our mobility are strong point is our Sustain Which is one of the key focal points of the build. Side note I would suggest trying to handed mastery reducing the cooldown On binding blade And the great sword leap May help Some of your problems With people kiting you.

Oh yes, D/D eles (brained ones alteast) are hard to beat. I’ve tried this build myself, how furious I was when a thief just swapped to SB and started 1 and 3 spam. Problem is that guardian is the only melee-based class with no access to movespeed buff, it’s just irritating when target simply walks out of your melee range, and your only options are either scepter, or two gap closers on 10 and 15s cooldown. And by the way, ascended gear grants minimal changes compared to exotic. It’s more of a personal goal to craft ascended set, than an advantage in wvw.

And that’s the main reason what I’ve not fully committed to this character because of the obvious and well-known weakness. I had thought about dropping in that signet that knocks the target down for 3 seconds but then I give up a source of boons and condi cleanse.

In a semi-closed environment, this Guardian build is amazing. Out in the open – well, it’s a pain.

Reflect Rapid Fire using Hold the Line…
What are you on about? Why are you expecting Regeneration and Protection to reflect ranged attacks?
