Guild Wars 2

Hi Everyone,

I searched using the bar but seems to be giving me an error. I looked at the previous 5 pages but dont see anything on leveling builds. I bought the game when it first came out but never really played it because i was so into WOW. Would like to give it a shot now before buying the expansion to see if i can get into it. I was thinking of leveling a Guardian . Any builds or suggestions and tips would be appreciated.

1) the meta builds aren’t very good for leveling.
2) a large portion of the time you spend leveling will be running all over the world exploring, participating in events, and completing renown hearts. staff isn’t generally considered to be a good weapon (low damage, mediocre support), but for leveling it’s far and away the best weapon. you can use it to easily tag mobs during events (more xp) and and the swiftness symbol helps you get around faster.
3) retreat (like staff secondary) is a skill that you’ll probably want on your bar at all times for more swiftness.
4) for your mainhand, just try out all the other weapons and figure out what you like. Any of them are fine while leveling. (personally I like sword/torch or hammer.)

I wouldn’t worry about “builds” until you get at least to 30.
And by then you’ll have a good idea of how you want to play.

I just returned to the game for the expansion and was wondering what a good build for the new zones would be?

Currently i’m using the longbow and great sword, not sure which traits and utility skills to get though.

You need:

Survivability: full zerker is not the best option, go for knight/carrion/mix-of-zerker and the others-whatever

Stunbreak: if you get stunned while a tormentor shoots at you you are dead.. you have to break stun!

Condi cleanse: you need at least one short CD condi removal… This can be weapon-trait-utility

You need defence: mace-focus-shelter-whatever… just when the kitty hits the fan…

This lets you choose 1 or 2 utilities depending on your build to play around…

Oh okay cool thanks for the guidance! which Specializations would you recommend I go into?

I’d use either Zeal or Radiance. The former is more damage-orientated, while Radiance offers a Blind on F1 + auto-recharge after you kill an enemy which makes it spammable against normal mobs to avoid inital damage. There are some cases where the monster isn’t considered as one in a few personal story missions so. So the recharge effect on Virtue of Justice didn’t trigger.

Ah okay cool thanks! I’ll probably try out Zeal, Virtues, Dragon hunter, but if I need the blind more then I’ll switch Radiance in for Zeal I guess.
