Looking for other raid build options
Hey there. The problem with healing Guardian is that anything you do can be done way better by a Druid and even a Tempest dedicated to heal. When it comes to burn Guardian it might work but Burnzerker will be always more useful since it gives 25 constant Might Stacks while having great condition damage.
If you don’t like the Hammer build I suggest to try the Scepter/Sword-Torch that gives you some condition damage with Torch and Radiance traitline http://qtfy.enjin.com/guardian This build is great for the green circle group in VG because the ranged damage of Scepter and Mobility with Sword #2 but damage is not that great.
Right now Guardian is pretty much meh, I’m playing Burnzerker or Power PS on raids and FotM (sometimes also play with my Viper Necro). If you want to play healer I suggest to make a Druid.
Heal guard is not only not optimal but it’s also rly not all that practical. Obvs druid is going to be better, but so are healing tempests and even healing revs.
Burn guard is much in the same position. The dps on it is dreadful. It’s also a pretty passive build letting spirit weapons hit stuff for you. IDK how you feel about that but imo it’s quite boring.
However guard isn’t meh. The pure scepter build and the sc/sw build have a decent amount of dps. It also brings good CC and other utility that the group might value (blocks, reflects).
If the recent buffs to support guardians (base virtues, signet of courage, line of warding) weren’t exclusive to PvP, I’d be willing to bet healer guardians would be a thing in raids.

Well not generally and definitely not in pugs, but maybe in some guild groups if they allow it.

Yes, I stand corrected, Guardian is not meh, I was a little harsh on that one. I just hope the class could bring something new to the table some day. I wish Retaliation wasn’t the bad buff it became after it got nerfed so a perma-Retaliation Tank Guardian could become viable in raids. A man can dream

IDK I don’t rly consider that a fun or active playstyle tbh. For that same reason I’m not rly a fan of the idea of making the burn buff to F1 come to pve and let spirit weapons not have a cd anymore. I realise this could make condi become viable but meh letting the AI do the work doesn’t sound too fun.
Personally I’m just hoping for a GS buff. All this symbol and aa spam gets quite boring after a while. When GS was meta pre-HoT at least we had some semblance of a rotation.

General consensus seems to be my group is better with me on DPS (guard or no) and a PUG healer. It’s a shame, I quite enjoy my Mender’s DH in PvP.
Same with burns huh? I’ll look into scepter/sword torch then. Plus side, I’d be able to run either build. Down-side, it looks like I’m making another Berserker set. So boring. I prefer min-maxing a skill or action over min-maxing stats.
I would like to discuss more about why burn Guard isn’t viable. Burning is the strongest condi in the game and Guard can buff it to 100% duration without Viper’s. From what you’re saying, it sounds like even going full Sinister wouldn’t be enough to offset the loss of the Power and Ferocity from ’zerkers. That about right? The scaling is really that bad? dang.

Basically we simply can’t stack burns high enough atm. Ppl use spirit weapons to get extra attacks and thus stacking the passive of VoJ higher but the weapons die which means a huge downtime. Tho tbf even if they didn’t die we’d do middle of the pack dps. Nothing compared to condi engi/ranger.
It’s been a while since I saw a proper rotation of this and I don’t have the gear to try myself, but as far as I remember it had comparable dps to warrior. Pretty crap for a dps class. And on top of that you can’t rly bring as much utility as a zerker DH since you need all utilities for burning.

I recommend to make another class if you want to play something different to DH DPS. I have Viper/Sinister gear on my Burnzerker and Necro. I have tried some burn builds on my Guardian and, even if they can be fun, you end up losing most of your utilities and still won’t be dealing high enough damage. You’ll also will be unable to provide the constant 25 might stacks you get from Burnzerker.
I don’t understand one thing and it’s the reason you’ll be making another zerker set. Why? Both are zerker with Scholar Runes, only difference is that you don’t need any Assassin gear/trinkets if you’re running Scepter-Sword/Torch and Radiance (because of Right-Hand Strength).
I would say to not give up on guardian.
I play tank guardian on VG and it make it really easier. People say that guardian dont bring anything that a Ele or Druid can bring better, but i dissagre. Guardian bring something that Druid and Ele cant, a tool to avoid wiping mechanics.

Now let me explain why guardian is better ( for one shots, not for faster clears ):
Two guardians on VG ( one tank, another healer ) divided in two groups of five can make sure you will not wipe.
People undervalue aegis a lot, if a mechanic would deal 10k damage to a player, aegis just healed for it ( actually it really healed because of “Pure heart” ), how many times you see a pug run wipping at the last phase because bad rng on blue circles inside green circle?? A guardian can avoid that, because AEGIS BLOCKS BLUE CIRCLES.
When i’m tanking VG, i can make sure everyone is 90%+ health so 100% uptime on schollar runes ( more dps ), i can make sure that aegis will be up every blue circle, so if someone miss blue circle because of lag spike, bug that didnt show blue on screen, any other reason, they wont be teleported and take a ton of damage and maybe be downed so more dps uptime, no one need to go ress him.
Seekers are coming near the boss? No problem, shield 5 seeker away. Another seeker? Swap to staff and staff 5 the seeker way ( Look staff 5 is actually usefull on pve O.O ). Your healers is a druid and not a guardian and because of it someone got teleported on green so your group took a lot of damage from green? You can burst heal with Receive the light+ F2 + Staff 4, you can bring everyone to full really fast.
One thing to notice Pure voice is way better than Force of will because you dont run vit, so almost none out going healing bonus, and having way more uptime on FmW and Retreat is way better.
On gors i guarante no one goes down on Gors Smash, you know that ele that got kitten dps because he get smashed on overload? With a experienced guardian that dont happen.
On Sloth a healer guardian can trait to have high uptime of WoR and shield 5. Three people miss shake and now will die to tons of condi? Use save yourself+Contenplantion of purity problem solved.
See guardian bring much better utility and safety than Ele and Druid, but utility and safety cant be measured with numbers so players undervalue DH a lot.
So you need to ask your raid leader: You want a one shot 7 min run or You want two/tries of 5 min runs?
Another point people bring is “Faster = Easier” other thing that is wrong, a 7 min run with a guardian, is way easier and less stressfull than a 5 min run with a druid.
The only thing about tank/healer guardian is that its not brain dead, you need to know the fight, you need to know when to use your aegis.

Guardian is one of three classes I currently raid with; the other two being Viper’s condi Ranger and zerker Tempest (staff or auramancer). My thief and engie can borrow gear but I haven’t raided with them seriously (just escort). Getting another character is technically an option but I’m already invested/happy with these guys, even though I could level a char to 80 instantly.
And in saying “another zerker set”, I was referring to on the account, not on my guard. My guard was previously running…a build balanced between Power, Toughness, Condi damage, with some Vitality and Healing Power thrown in. And Rune of Balthazar. PvE friendly but not raid useful.

You need the ministrel just to hit the 1400+ toughness because of warrior, ministrel is better because it gives boon duration and healing power. But you can use any cheap option with + toughness + the status you prefer i would go with something with healing or power.
And if you are not one shotting VG and Gors because of mistakes i said, i really would talk to your raid leader to have you as a DH tank instead of chrono. Like i said people undervalue things they cant measure with numbers.
And i raided a lot with my DH and with other classes ( sitting on 150+ LI ) and i can say that everytime we have one or two DH its a breeze.
I have also been tanking at VG (and a few other bosses) on DH, prob the easyest class to tank on.

This build leave you close to max dmg, and super tanky so that you cant die, even if your healers ignore you. Rotation is 11111111 on hammer, letting you use all your attention on mechanics. You bring tons of cc and aegis and perma proc for all.
