Make ground targeting consecrations optional
Someone has suggested that this should be a Quality of Life UI change for all ground-targeted skills: Right click the skill to select between auto-casting at your feet or manually area-targeting it. It really is a fantastic idea; I have no idea, though, how difficult it is to implement.
You can cast them on yourself like it used to be if you have your cursor on some UI stuff like your inventory or something.
Yea I preferred when I had the option to place it wherever or directly on me. Most the time I didn’t use ground targeting as it wasn’t needed. Only ever used it in some select situations such certain fractals or somewhere in a dungeon.
This has been driving me nuts since the traits were changed. Purging Flames and Hallowed Ground are much harder to use in melee now, and I usually end up casting them on a wall or in the distance because of camera shenanigans. I would actually take a trait that removes the ground targeting effect if I could.
There are some times when ground targeting them is useful, and I would want to keep that option available if possible. But that’s like 20% of my usage. Maybe add a hotkey to the game that makes all ground targeted abilities cast at your feet when you hold it down?
put your mouse on you…problem solved
don’t remove the ground targeting please

I don’t understand why some people would want to nerf something they’re using just to make it slightly easier to use.

“Make ground targeting consecrations optional” != nerf. It means give the user the option to pick what they prefer.
I think having an option in settings to change double-tapping a key to cast a ground-targeted skill at your feet would be fair.
They better not remove ground-targeting from consecrations as a whole, though. I’m already peeved enough with traps as it is.
Putting the mouse on my character or a UI element doesn’t help the situation. That’s effectively the same as putting the target on the ground near my feet. Both cases are prone to mis-targeting and dropping the consecration where I don’t want it.
I don’t want to take away the ground targeting ability, because I know a lot of people use it effectively (or at least more effectively than me). I just want a more robust way to guarantee the effect will be placed directly on my character when I activate it.
A modifer/hotkey is the best solution imo, and could apply to all ground target abilities in the game. Hold ctrl or alt when you activate an ability, and it automatically casts at your position. Doesn’t even show the ground target circle. That would make my time in this game at least 30% better.
Strongly disagree, don’t take away a QoL-change.

Strongly disagree with what? Providing more options to players?
You are right though, this was a change that reduced QoL for a lot of players. An unfortunate side effect of the trait changes.

It improved QoL, the only thing I agree with is having an option or keybind where you can instacast under you. Ground tageting is far superior, you don’t need to run straight into a bunch of red aoes to place your wall now.
You can practice with Line of Warding if placing your WoR is too hard

I don’t use WoR in most of my builds, so I don’t have that issue. But I understand what you’re saying. WoR and Sanctuary are better off as ground targeted skills.
But Purging Flames and Hallowed Ground are usually part of a melee build, where you want them centered on you probably 90% of the time. And QoL is subjective, which is why a hotkey/setting for instacast at your feet is the best solution.

I still feel like Purging Flames is better with Ground Targeting, I can throw it under myself if I need the cleanse, I can now throw it at my allies who are a distance away from me so I don’t need to walk up to them and throw it and now I can also pressure a kiter with low health with it if I’m sure I don’t need the cleanse. I’m talking about support builds for group play, both small and big ones, the ground targeting is great.
It is subjective indeed and that’s why I’m agreeing with a hotkey/setting option. I feel a bit stupid now, I don’t know what I was even disagreeing with you about anymore, should probably remove them

Isn’t it still in current PvE dungeons where you stand in a stack? If anywhere then it’s in PvE you want your consecrations under your feet. Dunno where you drew your conclusions from

Stacking has been a mediocre choice since the fgs nerf. Most often you want to spread around bosses in a star shape. You’d actually want the skills targetted under the boss so your whole party would get the effects.
