Hi, I would appreciate some feedback on my Guardian meditation build for WvW and possibly dungeons.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAR8dlsApcoVDxbI8DRR8gkjtfaVVgr/FMHA-TFCBwACs/4oyvcq/A4JAoS3wDzfTUCG4iAQIAQTAA-w

This is a fairly standard roaming meditation build from a trait and utility perspective, but I often run with zergs, so I wanted to improve the sustainability with the gear and food I am using. I was hoping this might also be okay in dungeons to start off with (thinking about starting dungeons).

I already have full exotic soldiers gear bought with WvW badges but I am otherwise on a budget (I don’t have enough time to accumulate large amounts of gold, or it will take quite a while at least). Otherwise I have a set of rare knights gladiator PPT gear (god that gear looks awful!!)

Because I have gone full soldiers I have used gems/jewels and food to improve crit % and crit damage. Plus they seem to be so cheap in comparison to superior runes. I have kept food cheap as well.

This seems to have a reasonable crit chance, especially with the boost from using meditations, whilst keeping health and toughness high.

Any views on how well people think this will work are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Meditations are neither good for WvW zerging nor for dungeons. :<

It would be advised to have completely different builds for WvW and PvE, the game modes at their current state value different things. We will see what sort of, if any, impact the expansion will have on them.
In current WvW Zerg meta you as a Guardian will want to be running in the frontline (dunno how much stability nerf will impact this, maybe they want their new Revenant baby pushed in there with their stability bridge). Sword and Focus will not be much of use there, nor Meditations. Altruistic Healing, Purging Flames, Hold the Line and Stand Your Ground are most commonly used there – supports both yourself and your allies.

About Meditations: they are skills used purely for yourself and don’t bring support for your allies, except MI of course.

If you go roaming alone with that build you have a big chance of getting completely kited since you have no access to swiftness or other movement speed buffs, and the 3k toughness will not buy you that much time in a mode where everyone will be spamming loads and loads of conditions on you.

Like others have said you should have seperate setups for each mode. For pve, meditations are bad and valor stops being worthwhile at 2 for retributive armor. The rest of the suggestions are strictly for pve.

The most well rounded build would be 45005. It has all the support you should need which would be blind/vul spam, master of consecrations, absolute resolution, and indomitable courage.

Utilities should be retreat (90% of the time on bar), wall of reflection if there are projectiles, and purging flames when there are conditions or if you need a fire field. That is a well rounded utility bar in general. If you need a lot of projectile defense (fractals) shield of the avenger + wall, if you need stability then stand your ground or hallowed ground, and if you don’t need support and have a free slot then bane. Your heal and elite are the best choices.

For gear I’d suggest at least working on a set of berserker armor or trinkets to mix in with your soldiers. You really shouldn’t need that much survival stats for pve and it can be better spent on dps which is what mostly matters for pve. Ruby orbs are terrible since the ferocity update. Scholar runes are best but flame legion runes are a good cheap choice and the next best thing.

Don’t use it for dungeons, you are denying your party a lot of guardian support by running medi instead of consecrations/shouts.

Meditation Guardian are good in WvW Roaming or sPvP. But for dungeon and WvW zerg you shouldn’t bring that build.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Well perhaps it is time to spend some of my karma in Orr to get a set of zerker gear for dungeons.

I am happy with the Frontline AH build for zerg WvW and have a decent staff and hammer for that. I was running that for a while. I will just need to get used to switching traits etc when I want to go roaming. As for kiting I will have to make do for a while with the various gap closers the medi build has because traveler runes are so expensive.

Thanks again for your advice.

Just as a reminder that the karma armour can’t be salvaged so any runes you put on them will be permanent/lost, (with scholar runes that could go up to 22-24g) farming CoF for Berserker gear would be wiser

I feel your pain with the price of Traveler Runes, can’t personally roam without them. You can always try Superior Runes of Speed

Brilliant thanks for the tip about CoF. I hadn’t realised I could buy berserker armour with CoF tokens (I’m a dungeon noob).

Yeah speed runes are far cheaper. They will do, and I can just tweak my other gear to keep my precision and ferocity up.
