Guild Wars 2

Hi. I’ve seen the advantage of having one or two guardians for fractals especially the higher level ones so I’m thinking of gearing up my 80 guardian alt to do fractals. But the truth is, I really don’t know where to start.

Is there perhaps an updated guide I can begin with that focuses primarily on building/speccing a guardian specifically for high level fractals?

If not, perhaps those with experience can answer a few of these questions.

1. What build would you recommend that I follow? I assume every good fractal build would at least have 10 in virtues up for the ability to spec into Master of Consecration (or fights where reflect would be quite useful).

2. Which utility skills are most useful for fractals? I assume Wall of Reflection is a must for some fights. How about Sanctuary? Would the rest be shouts? How about signets?

3. What weapons would be most efficient to use?

4. For gear, I’m inclined to think that a full Knight’s set would be most effective. Is that accurate?

know that of course, obal runs at high level fractals but i believe the general build still works at all levels. and definitely more forgiving at lower levels. one of the most important things i feel as well is to know the encounters, and when to use which weapons, skills and utilities.

you can see that to a certain extent in his videos against the bosses. or check out :Strife’s Fractal Guides

though, after you get your feet wet, try out different builds and find something that works for you. and would be best to find a consistent group to keep doing it with so you get used to playnig with other and can count on one another if needed. you can end up being stuck in fractals forever if you wind up in a PUG that just doesn’t click.

Hi akamon. Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, I am quite familiar with Fractals already as I do them at lvl 38 on my Ele with PUGs entirely (my guild just has no interest in it). >.<

Generally in the 2x guardian setup in fotm you want:

-an AH guardian with high sustain and high toughness for aggro control in certain encounters (works in the 4 mobs room in harpy fractal and grawl shaman, others may or may not glue to you). Typical build:

-a dps guardian to do damage and cycle defensive utilities with the AH guardian. Use GS to pull mobs behind WoR or into LoS spots. Also useful blind spamming at trash mobs. Typical build:

These builds, especially the utility slots, are just guidelines, definitely feel free to refine for a build that suits you better and suitable for the encounters
