So I spent the last 3 hours making this build and I would like to know what you think. Please tell me if you think something would be better and explain why.
I made the build with PvE/WvW in mind, but mostly PvE.

i copied everything from my build to this build editor, so everything is exactly like my build. This includes Armor and all.

“Renewed Focus”

~~Whats going on in my head~~
Basically I tried to balance survivability with damage output.

Survivability:
I heal from boon, symbols, dodging, and skills.
I get rid of conditions with Purity (Valor V) and Signet of Resolve every 10 seconds.

Damage:
I deal 45% damage at a 29% rate. (probably not the best :/)
I do damage with Might and Aegis (I don’t think Aegis is reliable, but should give me at least 1 solid hit :P)

Replace Writ of Exaltation with Superior Aria, Writ of the Merciful with either Pure of Voice or Battle Presence. You get more mileage out of 20% reduction in shout recast time & the BP regen than slapping on symbols – especially in WvW. Unscathed Contender -> Vengeful, and use Stand Your Ground in place of Retreat (situational).

I’m not saying it sucks or anything, but I’d understand the symbols better if you were using a Hammer.

Your build is a standard build for a hammer user, and gets some mileage with a greatsword, but I would recommend something along the lines of 30-0-0-20-20

I find Absolute Resolution more to my liking, because there are times when you just can’t attack, and in those times empowering might and altruistic healing are useless.

I also find Zealous Blade nice healing 90% of the time. The times I wish it was more, AH/EM wouldn’t help me much either, unless you want the option to heal with your staff #4 skill.

If you want to do that, a 30-0-30-10-0 build gives the Zealous Blade heals, and every third hit with greatsword gives might, so that’s a small AH heal, and when you are in trouble you can still staff heal yourself to full…

The only way to play the engineer is to exploit it.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.

- Drop Two-Handed Mastery, replace it with Pure of Voice. Two-Handed Mastery isn’t that great except with Hammer. It may seem like it makes the weapons more powerful, but if you’re smart about when you use the abilities, the extra few seconds on utilities doesn’t do much.
- Drop Unscathed Contender and replace it with Vengeful or drop those 5 points and pick up Justice is Blind instead. Unless you’re standing at the back with staff for a long time, Aegis will be removed within a few seconds. And DPS’ing with a staff for an extend period of time is not your best option.
- Use “Stand Your Ground!” because it’s just that good.
- In WvW, “Save Yourselves!” will kill you in a large group. Be careful about when you use it.
- I would drop “Retreat!” and pick up a different utility. It doesn’t do a lot in PvE and in WvW, you have staff for swiftness and Leap of Faith for getting around quickly.

The Zeal line is pretty bad. No matter how hard people have tried, there’s no good build with 20 or 30 points in Zeal. The greatsword healing may seem good, but Altruistic Healing does just as much or more and doesn’t depend on a single weapon. The minor traits don’t come into play enough to make a significant impact, and you can offset the extra power with more offensive gear.

“Retreat!” feel pointless when you have staff (skill 3)

So, AH really shines with Hammer (where 2h Mastery isn’t needed) but it also does well with Empowering Might and GSword. I would switch out Writ of the Merciful with EM and switch Unscathed Contender with Master of Consecrations. This gives you heals on Might and a low cooldown on Wall of Reflection, good for PvE.

Gear wise you won’t need Clerics here as AH gives a ton of healing w/o any healing gear. Depending on your comfort level I’d suggest Knights or Zerker’s or a mix. AH is very strong and if you’re proficient with the class Zerker’s is just fine. I would run Omnom Pie and maybe Sigil of Blood on the staff if you need to.

After you run this and get comfortable and bored give a 10/30/0/30/0 a try. This gives over 35% increased damage if the requirements are met and is runable in Zerker gear. I’m quite happy with this build as it hits hard, is versatile and can be supportive.

I recommend:

Take out writ of the merciful for pure of voice. The healing is not good and rarely do you ever get to heal anyone with symbols since people are moving around at all times anyway.

Take out writ of exaltation for superior aria. Larger symbol is a good thing but not as useful as having 20% less CD on your shouts.

Unscathed Contender with Vengeful. You will rarely ever get the bonus from that since Aegis has long CD and you will be hit often enough where you won’t ever really have that on you for long.

It looks like you are trying for a full support build with the cleric stuff.

In that case you should skip the emerald orbs and go 2 sup water, 2 maj sanct, 2 sup monk for max boon duration increase.

The problem with cleric builds is healing doesn’t scale very well so unless you go all the way with gearing towards it you won’t really see much difference while it hurts your survivability and damage.

If you are content in being in a fully support role I’d recommend go all clerics with the rune setup I stated above. If you go half way with healing stat you will have watered down healing and vastly decreased dps so it’s not going to be very effective.

If I were you, I’d stat all knights with the traits I mentioned and the rune setup and put in sup sigils of bloodlust in order to maximize your survivability, dps, and boon duration instead.
