Hey guys,

I want to start playing my Guardian a bit more, especially in WvW and some PvE. So I started to look for a competitive build. I think I composed a build which could work very well. I´m just a bit undecided which gear, runes and sigils I should use. Here is my build: My Build
What I want to ask you for is some feedback on my choices. What would you change and why? Please, only constructive criticism.

Thank you

its a standard ah variant but i think u use way too many knight gears. maybe change the armour set from knight to soldier instead for some more hp

How many HP should I have? Would the healing be enough without AH? Are there any alernatives to spend these traitpoints?

I’d say for WvW 18k+ is a nice boundary, especially if you like getting stuck in. If you’re in a large scale fight then Save Yourselves can be very dangerous. I would advice swapping the trait Vengeful and taking either Consecrated Ground or Master of Consecrations as Ground targeting Sanctuary on cannons or to disrupt enemy movement can be useful and wall of reflection can also be tremendously useful (if the group you’re fighting has huge retaliation then you’re a bit screwed :P).

For your elite skill take Renewed Focus on your own in a zerg and Tome of Courage in organised groups. Also Signet of Resolve is nice and all but Shelter can really save your kitten in WvW at times.

I was just about to say that. In WvW Shelter will block a whole lot more damage than Signet of Resolve will ever heal.

To be honest, and this is from my perspective.
Your crafting of this build is a standard cookie cutter build that doesn’t fit all of the slots.
I reccomend Clerics over Knights or Soldiers, the additional Healing power will certainly trumph Vitality if you’re looking for mitigation. Be aware that toughness triumphs over Vitality because as a Guardian our best type of defence is toughness.
AH builds are good for staying alive but aren’t going to be very effective when your server is asleep.
Retributive Armor is not of the more worthwhile traits as a Guardian, instead take Purity or Defender’s Flame.
Also remeber as a Guardian to have different weapons for different occasions, push with staff whilst the Hammer provides excellent CC (for zerg fights).
When playing solo be sure to have more mobile weapons such a GS or Sword.
This is from my perspective only and feel free to try different things from what others reccomend. Hoped this helped.

You can sacrifice some of the crit rate for more healing power since after a certain % it begins to become a waste of time other than that it’s not a bad set-up. Also I would recommend pairing Contemplation of Purity with Save yourselves as in WvW if you yank conditions from other people and have no clear way of removing them it can mean suicide.

As some guys have written before …
„Save yourselfes“ can be very dangerous, especially when you´re running in a zerg and you haven´t got enough removes.
Renewed Focus is a good elite, cause it gives you 3 seconds of stability, maybe helpfull if you want to get in a hold or if you´re divin in an enemies zerg.
Dangerous in alturistic healing is, when you´re alone, so try to have some guys arround, if you´re allone and you get in trouble with enemies, you´re a freeloot

Traits are similar to mine as a HP-balanced DD
Your Power is „quite“ low, your crit-chance is high and your crit-dmg is also low – for me personally (just me!!) thats a bit crazy now, but I did this also in the beginning

So my suggestion (if you want to go a save DD-way in the frontline) is this
Survival-Frontline-CritDMG-Guardian

I´m running it (in an adapted version for ascendeds) since a few weeks and it´s working in guildraids, in publiczergs, in smallscale-scenarios and it´s awesome if you played heal or support before, cause you don´t have to bite your enemies down
It doesn´t meet the w3-tendencies oft he most w3-guild I know, cause mostly the standard-w3-builds are more tanky, but with some movement it´s fun anyway

The build is also viable in PvE (especcially the easier ones like AC,FC, the actual pavillion and the open world sectors – fractals it´s a bit risky, but with changing some skills, depending on the situation, it´s also working), but for PvE there are better builds.

Maybe this helps you, but it´s just one possibility to run your guardian in w3

€: If you don´t like to jump in your enemies as the first one, change Judge´s Invention to “Hallowed Ground” (for stability) or to “Retreat” (for Speed, Aegis and a + Heal).
In PvE I would recommend a Greatsword, cause it has got more mobility (DMG is in the end almost the same as with the hammer)
