I’m running a guardian with the common 0/0/30/30/10 AH „anchor“ build (focus on shouts). Though I love playing the guardian I feel that I don’t contribute (aka support) to the groups success at the best possible way.

I think I do a good job (in terms of „tanking“, damage and not-dying) but that my focus on shouts is most of the time only support for myself. The problem is that my regular group (and quite a lot random groups I run into) consists of 2-3 natural ranged classes (rangers and eles) and a melee-class, that turns out to fight at max. range as well.

Now there I am, a hammer-swinging AH guardian with lots of boons and symbols, both of which no one else takes advantage of… When I’m using a shout or staff #4 I rarely see any other player getting a buff on his icon list

So now my question is, should I change my playstyle to let my teammates get a taste of those buffs as well (which would mean I could drop my hammer and fight from distance as well) or are there better utilities or even traits to keep fighting in close-range but give my teammates real support?

I don’t think this a problem with personal play style, I think it’s a problem with group tactics. You need to coordinate with your teammates, try using VoIP services to chat with teammates and coordinate your attacks.

Seems to me that your problem does not deal with a lack of group support, as the standard AH build has a proper amount, but with a group made up of half-assing slackers. From personal experience on my guardian there is really no reason, save a few specific encounters that favor range, for anyone in the group to be so far from the fight that they dont benefit from your shouts.
The ranger plinking away from max bow range is now completely useless as the few group utilities they bring are too far to be any real help. The melee class you mentioned that goes ranged (warrior?) should put his head down in shame. If anybody else is going ranged, mesmer, ele, etc. to the point where they cant get your buffs then there is a good chance theyre not giving their buffs to others. Do what Dakotasbrant suggested with voice chat but use it to mock them for their cowardice instead.
As for switching to ranged yourself to bring your team buffs on a silver platter…well you cant ALL stay at range. Eventually the mobs will get near and then your group will scatter while trying to maintain their distance. This is all just my opinion though
