So i finally finish the personal story for my Guardian, and now i want to get into dungeon running. Im just not entirely sure what traits, skills or weapons i should be using in a dungeon.

Using 0/0/30/30/10 & working on full knight armor with cleric jewlery, 6 soldier runes:

Iv tried a few story dungeons and i always survive great against most things, but the party usually died rather quickly and i couldnt help but think if its was because of my setup?. Should i be using mace/shield rather then hammer?. Any tips is most welcome for a dungeon running guardian!.

P.s should i aim for the AC armor Pow/Vit/Tough?.

I also use 0/0/30/30/10 with full Knights. I would advise you should get all sorts of different armor and weapon sets for all occasions but Knights is a great baseline. If you do go Pow/Tough/Vit I would advise against Soldier runes and suggest crit runes to offset the lost Precision.

More than likely if you’re surviving and your party is not, it’s their fault

Mobs and champs tend to blow all their skills on you in the first few seconds of combat, so bring renewed focus and/or shelter (or a bunch of blocks) to survive the initial assault if you’re the one to aggro.

For sustained survivability against mobs, signet of judgment + hold the line + mace/hammer survives against pretty much every mob if you’re having problems with that. Greatsword kills mobs faster though unless you’re specced for symbols.

For bosses, bring Stand Your Ground + Mace/Focus + Virtue buffs to Courage/Resolve to fight the BS one shot kills for you and party members near you. You can increase DPS with scepter and torch if that’s what’s needed. I have never found a case for using sword, but would appreciate theory on that.

For emergency situations, actually consider a meditation build, especially if there’s no warrior in the party. The reason for this is that if a guardian is annoying and knock-backy enough (to break aggro), they’ll usually be the target of renewed aggro due to their high toughness and low health. Run away from your party members once you’ve got the aggro of the major threat and keep yourself alive while the rest of the party rezzes and recharges. You can also do this with hammer/mace/focus + hold the line + signet of judgment as said before.

What roles do you wish to fill and how do you want to balance those roles? Are you primarily concerned with DPS, support, or control? Group support or self-sustainability? All of these are important to know when considering a build. I run a heavy support build and often hear from my guild about how much easier dungeon runs are when I am there because of the amount of support I provide.

At the same time, one of the great parts of this game is that everyone has their own #6 heals and ability to dodge and are ultimately responsible for their own survivability and not “the healer”. You’ll never want to play just a single role, but sharing what you really want to focus on and how you want to balance your roles would help a lot with answering your questions.

Build looks fine, stats look fine, if your party is dieing and your not, then it’s not your fault, as long as your removing conditions and helping people up. Guardians are supposed to survive. So it’s working as intended.

i use 4 pieces of AC armor for vitality and 2 knights (chest/legs). evrything else is knights, at the amulet i changed the gemstone to valkyrie. plus i have the event trinket that also gives HP.

the build you’re hinting at here is basically AH crithammer and i’m running a remarkably similar outfit. your gear choice depends on whether you want to focus on attacking or healing yourself. AHCH is gunna do both pretty well regardless, but Knight’s is a solid middleground (and easy to take) and what i use mainly. i take (almost) no extra vitality or healing, except weapons (Knight’s armor, berserker’s jewels, pre/vit/heal AC weapons) and focus on DPS pretty hard. as for runes, i’ve actually been experimenting with a 2 x Fire, 2 x Hoelbrak, and 2 x Fire to get a total of like 70-80% might duration bonus (I almost always have a staff with empower.)

also, i’d recommend against cleric’s anything. you can’t go pre /vit/ heal for jewels i don’t think. but if you can secure a solid like 30-40 critchance it’s worth it to take berserker’s (since you’ve already got 30% critdmg from your traits) i think, since between armor, runes, and weapons you should be more than survivable.

really it depends on whether you want to manage your own defense. taking the toughness and attack from knight’s with the all out fury of berserker’s (with no runes to mitigate dmg) is what i’m doing, since the guardian has lots of ways to mitigate their own damage actively and if you’re playing with a few other frontliners you’re an HP engine unto yourself. that said, if you’re less comfortable dodging and blocking, pr / vit / heal will give you stupid amounts of HP coming back (don’t ever take too much heal without vit – you’ll overheal and waste HP) and will give you more freedom on the battlefield. ultimately it’s not even a question of DPS vs support, because i think that depending on player each one could have comparable DPS (if you have to spend less time actively healing or dodging you’re spending more time pounding the badguys – even if you’ve lower attack stats, attacking MORE will eventually compensate). it’s whether you want active or passive defense and healing.
