Elite Spec Name: Runepriest
Weapon: Short bow
New Skill Type: Runes
Mechanics: F1- F3= Tomes, Wisdom.
Guardian Elite Spec becomes Runepriest

The wise knowledgeable Runepriest using their bow and tomes, brands enemies and allies alike with runes of great power, to damage enemies and heal allies.

Tomes require Wisdom, which is generated from heals and boon application.

Tomes replace the virtues, but each virtue still grants a passive effect similar to how virtues work.
Tome of Wrath replaces Virtue of Justice, and focus on ranged damage.
Tome of Light replaces Virtue of Resolves, and focus on healing output.
Tome of Honor replaces Virtue of Courage, and focus on a hybrid of defense and CC.

Rune skills have a two part activation chain. First activation place runes on target for an passive effect, and second activation triggers the Runes for powerful effects.

“We don’t need more ranged weapons on this almost entirely melee-centric class!”. I’m hoping for a ranged support weapon next time around, or at least tomes staying as ranged support.

Question:
What exact relation does a Shortbow have with the common fantasy notion of a Runepriest?

Also, why Shortbow immediately after Longbow? Are there not many other options that would fit the overall theme better?

Ranged primary throwing dagger for a support would look cool.

Call it “Rune Etcher.”

Its the only Land 2hander for starters left. Rather save Spear for something else.

Also in many fantasies, the Priestess wield bows.

Most other weapons core Guardian can already use from traditional runepriest archtype.

None of the weapons left fit a runepriest, but warhorn seems like a logical step for the next Guardian weapon and wouldn’t be completely out of line for a runepriest.

No Rifle?
But even then, why does it need to be two handed? A Dagger at 900 range fits the idea much better (etch runes through magic, like Necro Axe). Many Weapons unavailable to a Guardian fit the archetype better.

Sure, in Eastern legends a priestess might use a bow, but the Runepriest archetype is not Eastern in nature. A Runepriest and Shinto priestess are not one in the same.

Before they go about adding new ranged weapons I would much rather they fix numerous things about the base class including the fact the scepter is useless beyond 600 range when fighting a moving enemy.

Frankly I would also much rather they focused on the origins of guardians and added a paragon with a 2handed pole arm.
