let me start off by saying I have never played guardian and have never looked up a build. I don’t know that much about them. I have played since pre release and I have never been interested in them until yesterday.

I looked at the traits for about ten minutes and made this build, so I am very confident it can be better. I liked the look of the build and it looked like something I would really enjoy to run. Im just curious what tweaks I can do to make it better. I did surprisingly good with it in spvp but it was made for pve.

GS and Sword/Torch
Signet of resolve/Hold the Line/Save yourselves/Stand your ground/Tome of courage

0-
20-Inner Fire/Radiant Fire
0-
20-Superior Aria/ Empowering Might
30-Retaliatory Subconscious/Elite Focus/ Superior Justice

I know I should stack power and precision. Some crit damage and boon duration. But what about condi dmg?

Supposed to? probably not, but it can happen. You will also find that Aegis will be broken even if you are using another block skill like Shield of Wrath, Protector’s Strike or Shelter

Guardians only have access to 1 reliable condition, and that doesn’t scale very well with condi damage so unless you’re planning on running a very very specific burning build ( check this forum’s stickies ) it’s best to avoid it entirely and put the stats somewhere else.

Retaliatory Subconscious is bad, switch it out for Vengeful.
Elite Focus and Tome of Courage is only taken if you’re running a support build but then again, Guardians don’t have much of a choice for PvE elites. Run Absolute Resolution or Indomitable Courage.

The base of the most efficient build for PvE is 10/25/0/x/5. Rest of the points should be specced to match your utilities (Superior Aria for shout spam, Master of Consecration for Consecration spammed, and etc.).
Sword/Focus + Greatsword, Shelter or Signet of Resolve, and utilities should be whatever matches the situation (For example: Wall of Reflection in Fractals or Hallowed Ground/Purging Flames for might/boon stacking during boss fights with low movement).
Switch to Greatsword only for Whirling Wrath and bunching trash mobs, otherwise spam Sword#1.

Thanks

-I ment Tome of wrath, sorry
-Vengeful> Retaliatory Subconscious. Vengeful was an easy choice, I just didn’t see it.
-Indomitable resolution vs Absolute resolution. I already have a shout that gives me stability a 1/3 of the time. Which is way more than I am accustom to. I am taking the passive heal boost over it, it is just a lil less than 4 times the heal and the extra condi removal never hurts. Im not really sure ill activate anything but virtue of justice, seems like ill actually be spamming it.

Defiantly an improvement

wow, I thought Inner Fire was intended to go with the #4 torch but it seems to mean when you receive a burning condition.

Ill be swapping it for blind exposure since I will be spamming blinds via virtue of justice

Also you said spam Sword#1, did you mean GS#1? I assumed, for a large group of adds, it was better to get the easy might stacks.

haha, yea, and it’s something that’s been around since release. it only makes sense. but sionce torch 4 doesn’t put “burning” on you, then you don’t get the fury. though do note, depending on which game mode you’re in, it can be a decent trait if you have no other access to fury and there’s no other trait you could take. in sPvP or even WvW for example. if you’re up against a Guard, you’ll knwo for sur eyuo’ll have burning, ie fury uptime since they burn you just by attacking you. same for against engi’s, ele’s, even necros.

and yes spam sword 1. the sword auto attack chain is extremely strong. minimal difference but know that sword autoattack(AA) 1, AA2 are cleaves while sword AA3 is a cone (and they are also projectiles for some reason).

GS auto gives might but i don’t think it’s that big of a deal. GS you usually use for the burst from WW, or utility from the pull with GS 5.
