Dunno how on PvE but against players DH is not on a bad possition. Check on top guilds WvW or gvg DH is In Mele train on s/h or in focus party on lB/s. I am playing on DH in focus party and i am doing not that bad. I Know that anythIng that matters now is revenant but just… feel the force and Play DH

DH is doing well in PvP, even not being meta. Sometimes in skirmishes and holding points two DH are performing even better than two Revs or two Mesmers, at lest in the “not top” of the league.

What would be nice is a revamp of the regular Guardian; signets, spiritual weapons and most of consecrations are pure crap in PvP, and also most of the traits.

Like Buran said: In “not top-level PvP” dh is quite good and the mesmer nerfs also helped a bit. Still tanky eles and condi revs really counter it hard.

In the raids.. mh.. atleast at vail guardian dh is a good tank choice.

Frankly I (and I’m not alone here) think they should change the traps into necro style marks.

This would come with a trade off

1: They would not be invisible anymore
2: They would not last as long once placed

However

3: They would become ranged
&
4: Any boons granted would be shared with allies.

This would go a long way towards making Dh more viable for the meta while at the same time getting rid of allot of the QQ from people being ambushed by traps.

As for the rest of the guardian traits, weapon skills & utility skills there are numerous threads on the fixes they need.

Reaper is perfect though, but I get what youre saying. The thing is, Necro had a GREAT base but was missing “something”. It was Decent for PVE, Great for PVP and great for WVW due to certain things it had. Reaper found a way to pull it all together: it made condi builds better, added more aoe, made melee stronger, more survivable (somehow) faster… It just truly upgraded the Necro.

Guardian on the other hand had possibly the best base besides ele and DH didnt really fix the flaws it had, it just added strengths it didnt have before. Thats why DH is cool and its good, but theres still something missing.

2 good DH working in synergy together can wreck entire 3-5 man groups that aren’t bunkered properly.

In my personal opinion, the Guardian situation at the moment is really sad. Long time without seeing a “normal” guardian that is not using bow/trap build, all possibilities of interesting and fun builds wasted.

No it totally makes sense. I think part of the issue is DH being selfish on a class thats always been about support, and while the new virtues are great, having a cast time to make them higher risk/ higher reward isn’t great in a meta where people spam AoE interrupts on points without thinking, while you’re forced to run stupid traits in virtues to get your virtures to work well enough to keep you alive, much in the same way necro needs soul reaping for staff LF gen and vital persistance, its just that the cooldown of the virtues being a bit high despite their strength makes it a weak class mechanic if you ask me.

Also in my opinion, most of the guardian weapons are a bit lacking aside from longbow, theres usually a useless skill or two on each set, and its not like necro where you have shroud skills to make up for the kitten iness of most your weapon skills. Instead you get traps, and longcooldown virtues that give you momentary extra surviability.

Yeah, overall, I’d say that dragonhunter/guardian is lacking sustain in the nature of the current meta, because their virtues are their primary defense/cleanse, have long cooldowns, and the low health pool works against them because they can’t spam heals as well as an ele can.

It is not only Tempest (being the hardest counter) but Condi-Rev and any combination with a bunker Mesmer too.

F2 is currently the most depressing thing because when I need it, when I get focus targeted, then it is extremely hard to land it… and the condi remove only provs if you actually land it.

LB simply outperformes any other weapon because, like everywhere in the game, being ranged is just so much easier.

The thing why dh feels lacking and reaper feels great is because reaper was building on top of the base class, not changing the playstyle but adding additional combinations of traits that work together.
Guard on the other hand just completely changed everything about the playstyle and the only thing working together like before were virtues.

The combinations of traits we have are currently just not strong enough to compete with “singular good traits”. For example the aegis for team on block, aegis deals damage and stuff like that… there are interactions but they are not good enough.

If they do this they have to change the concept, they will not be traps anymore, I doubt they will do that.

When they released the first news about DH and that it would be a trap based line my first reaction was “oh crap”, they should be marks and not traps, just like you are sugesting… marks would fit the Guardian concept better as “wards of protection”. But Anet wanted it to be more like a true hunter so thety are traps.

And in true… after I started playing it I liked it a lot, it is a more strategic playstyle, and fits the hunter concept Anet wanted.

It simply doesn’t have any blatantly useless skills like most of the vanilla guard weapons. The symbol is the worst skill and even that is usable compared to things like torch 5, focus 4, sword 3, most of the hammer/scepter skills.

I can confirm that Guards and/or Dragonhunters get flicked off the option list when you enter the LFG

I count out the LFG being a mess right now because I was sitting in LFG for 6 hours now waiting for even one single PUG to pick me up. Whilst Chrono Tanks get picked left and right in light speed time.
