Not affected by nerf
The Greatsword is a part of our arsenal, whether you utilize it or not. A lot of people, myself included, used the Greatsword in a very defense oriented build (focusing on Symbols).
Thinking that you are not affected is one way to look at it. The other would be to say “Oh, well I guess it is a good thing I don’t currently have any interest in the Greatsword, but it kind of sucks that I won’t ever find that option really appealing now.”
I don’t mind the nerf, to be honest, it won’t make me any less capable (I’m already the worst player in GW2!) =D
Never found it appealing to begin with, but I hate the fact it was nerfed for the guardians who use it. Consider it dread for what might come when they nerf our maces.
Why shoul they nerf mace in the first place, anyway?
I also do not use great sword, I use hammer scepter/shield or sometimes mace/shield. Retaliation is no problem to keep up, the only thing that is harder after the patch is protection.
There are players who want to play Guardians beyond just this “support/healing” box that we’re being put into with these updates. Some people want to deal dmg. Especially since that the only way you’ll get any progression through the game (XP, Loot, Badges of Honor, Glory, Event Participation and Legendary Progression) is by apply dmg.
That means even the most Healing/Supportive Guardian has to do SOME DMG in order to not be passed up and left in the dust by other more DMGing and Contributing Professions.
Try farming Karma in Orr and see how well you’ll do getting dmg and loot competeing against 20 other players when they AoE, Whirlwind, and destory the area with HUGE amounts of dmg and your left stuck not dealing enough dmg comparatively and thus are left with no rewards in terms of loot. (you do get your karma tho)
Try tanking in Dungeons when you dont have enough DPS to keep the mobs from scattering. Or how you have the lowest HP and yet are on the front lines the most and have the least viable options for dmg. Im sorry but how are you suppose to “Guard” anyone when your dmg isnt even getting the monsters attention (unless you spec completely for dmg which means when you get the monsters attention, your dead unless you run for you life)
We have weaknesses to our class, were tough but not in any way invincible.
What im slowly coming to realize is the Irony in my choice of Profession. I wanted to protect my friends while braving the front lines with armor forged of the finest of metals, while healing and give my friends the support through boons. But i find myself being squishier, my boons less effective, my damaged hampered.
In this game the only way to protect someone effectively is my doing DMG. Its the only thing that will scary off an opponent. Skills like the shield bubble and Sanctuary will only attract an enemy, have them notice you, and in most cases, leave you waiting for the bubble to come down for your inevitable death by the enemies looking at you like a trapped mouse just waiting for the cage to open.
Reducing our dmg in PvP is going to make us less viable in general and easier to kill.
I wondered a week ago why my guild mates were rolling warriors. Now i know why.

That’s the spirit!
I use the GS a part of a symbol build. It gives those around me a field in which to combo, to remove conditions, I traited it to provide healing and vulnerability.
And now they’ve taken that away from me… to fix a problem with retaliation.
