I am sure I will get flamed for this, but I am enjoying my Guardian in WvW.

I am in the nerfed symbol/GS group and still using my GS with my symbols and my hammer, still in the Zeal trait. I am able to keep up retaliation most of the time due to GS’s leap, Hammer’s #2 and stand your ground.

1vs1 I win about 75% of the time. Zerg vs zerg I get at least 4-5 kills before I go down.

I usually run with a couple of friends/guildies who can cripple the runners, allowing me to Judge’s Intervention them and lock them down with #5 chains. On large sieges I am either under the gate on the ram, or keeping my buddies protected from random brave bad guys. Also, my lasso theif buddy pulls the unfortunate snipers from the wall for my enjoyment.

So overall I see the decrease in overall dmg from the last nerf, but I haven’t changed my playstyle at all. Still loving the Guardian.

Have any of you given up on your Guardian after nerf?

Why would you ever use a symbol build in PvP? No one is going to stand inside them for long unless they are poor players.

For leap and twirl combo and you’d be surprised how many of them stand in it, or locked down and can’t move. That’s why I keep using it.

But like I said, it works for me, I tried different weapons and builds and my dps/survivability went down.

Not sure if you think you’ll get flamed for enjoying WvW as a Guardian or for your build. If you think it’s simply because you enjoy WvW as a Guardian, then I’m here to come to your defense.

I still do well enough imo. The staff is great facing large groups of invaders, capping, and general support (empower is nice). The scepter crits like crazy, and chains + retreat + cleansing flame closes the gap and puts major damage on a stray invader. I guess I turned my huge norn in heavy armor into sort of a caster, but I like to think of him as a Heavy Mobile Arms Platform =P.

Is that all your friends do? Cripple the runners? Are you sure they’re not doing all the DPS, too?

Is that all your friends do? Cripple the runners? Are you sure they’re not doing all the DPS, too?

Since there is no dps meters in this game, just have to judge by the health bar and how fast it drops and who is hitting it. So as far as I can tell, when I get to the target and start my whirl, the health bar goes down pretty quick.

My point on this thread was, even if my build and class is kittened, I am still enjoying WvW and can see that I am making a difference.

I was never a big greatsword or hammer fan, myself. sPvP I run sword+shield (I don’t normally do guardian in sPvP). WvW I run sword+shield and staff. PvE I have everything in my toolbox, but again, I tend to run sword and board.

I think so many people are trained to believe “there is a best solution” that they miss out on so many possibilities that would likely be better suited to their playstyles. It sounds like greatsword matches yours, and that is great (I realize this can come across as sarcastic, but it is not—I genuinely enjoy the sucess stories people have with finding the build that works for them as it exposes me to alternatives I may not have considered).

My WvW build forces me to dance between front-line leader (I am predominately melee, after all) and back-line support. A mis-step usually drops me, but fortunately I tend to have allies to help me back up. In a 1v1, I can hold my own reasonably well—I demolish scissors but have to watch out for paper, and all that.

I find my biggest strength in WvW tends to be my ability to shift a battle line. I can push foes back or cover a retreat well enough that we’re generally fighting where we want to. I may not rack up a lot of kills, but I’ve never approached competitive content with the viewpoint of maximizing my gain, I’ve always focused on the objectives and winning as a team. I suppose this feeds back to just being my playstyle—supporting the team; the reason I rolled guardian in the first place.

The “nerf” hasn’t affected me i constantly rotate weapons and utilize different equips depending on the situation or if I just get tired of using the same weapon for a while.

I had to get used to the new skill bar layout but that didn’t take long either people are surprisingly adaptable when they want to be. And the skill bar adjustment was needed.

This topic is starting to annoy me actually but I find myself posting here anyway go figure lol

Players really need to let it go its not going back it’s been two weeks now hasn’t it? So stop kicking and screaming about it. And really, if you can’t see a guardian’s combat capabilities past symbol builds and one weapon you need to broaden your horizons or just reroll because you probably weren’t playing the profession to it’s fullest potential in the first place were you?

Fildydarie, thanks for your feedback. I see quite a few guardians with a board bubbling up to res or push the bridge wars. Works great! I’ll need to try the sword as well.

MastaNeenja, not sure about your comment, was it offensive or sarcastic? If I use GS, I am doing it wrong, is that what you mean?

That question was not directed at any one individual it was written as a sort of self evaluation. I will admit I had a moment of “oh this sucks” too. But I kept playing and it really didn’t slow me down.

All I am saying is that players shouldn’t just use a GS only. They should have one serviceable copy of each equipable weapon in their inventory at all times. If you use a GS that’s great nothing wrong with it. I use one too it’s a good weapon, but you shouldn’t rely on one weapon to the point that if it gets changed or nerfed you have nothing left to fall back on and feel you need to stop playing a Guardian or any other character.

If you are having fun with your Guard after the GS changes then you are doing it right, which is what I suspect the majority of the players are doing. They are too busy playing to really comment on the changes.

GS after initial burst is bland. I switch to the hammer most of the time to get retaliation going or lock a runner down.

If I am not in combat I run GS/Staff and then switch to GS/Hammer right before a fight. I constantly keep catching myself switch to a hammer just find a staff and saying “Oh kitten!” to myself…. so I just drop might on everyone.

You are right GS alone is pretty weak, got to combine it with something else.

I can’t use GS in PVP I usually get murderated pretty quick. The hammer I seem to do a bit better with. I am new to PvP and WvW though been mostly doing PvE but I want to get my montlys lol
