What is the best offensive PVE elite for a human guardian, other than when in a party and buffing allies? So I am asking about direct personal damage elites.

Most of my toons are Asura and I love my golem. I am not seeing that human racial are as good as Asuran, but that might just be what I am used to. The only class elites I use are the Tomes in dungeons and such.

The only elite that really does anything offensive is tome of wrath. Use 4 for fury and quickness when you have free time when a boss is not attackable yet or something and throw it away again since actual weapon rotations do way more damage than anything you could do with the tome. Obviously using a 180s cd just for some low duration fury and quickness is pretty meh so I wouldn’t even bother with it.

It’s been a few months since the last time I changed my elite from renewed focus to something else on any of my guardians in any gamemode.

I guess if you REALLY want something that does damage even if it’s really underwhelming and kinda useless you could also use the hounds of balthazar. They usually hit for 2k smth and then die and they have 240s cd but hey.

Yeah, hounds of balthazar seem spectacularly “meh” after my golem.

Sooo… for general PVE, you’d suggest renewed focus? I can see that blowing your virtues, then renewed focus, would help. I had just noticed the 2s invulnerability when I looked at it… and went back to my golem.

What do you think of Tome of Courage in dungeons? That one I like and have even used on my Asura Guard.

Works nicely in the right spots and at the right times.

Use Renewed Focus in dungeons. Nothing else provides enough utility.

Heck, use Renewed Focus everywhere. The tomes are still really underwhelming.

Since I posted this, I’ve been running around with Renewed Focus and, yeah, its pretty awesome. Really nice in WvW (I’m not good enough to PvP so WvW is as close as I get).

I’ll give it a whirl when I do dungeons later.

Really if you are not using renewed focus in a dungeon you are doing it wrong. The tomes in their current form are simply trash. Unless you are super into speed clearing and breaking records where sometimes they choose tome of wrath. I remember seeing a speed clear of SE where the guard used quickness from the tome then dropped it immediately.

But if you just want to do dungeons reliably and efficiently then never take renewed focus off your bar. The invuln is awesome and it more importantly it resets f2 and f3 allowing you for another condition clear (assuming you are traited) and another party wide block.

IIRC the Tome should also proc weaponswitch sigils

Renewed focus refreshing your block on F3 can be really important. I don’t think there’s any real justification for switching to the offensive tome. I doubt it increases the team’s overall DPS more than what you lose for using the tome yourself. I haven’t seen any numbers on it, but I’d be willing to bet DnT and other similar guilds have at least tested it.

I tried, in every single way to make both tomes worth to use, in a lot of builds, but they are just too weak. If they work like Elemental weapons of Ele (without droping a weapon on ground, only for guardian) they would be good, since you could heal and use your utilities.

Ran a few dungeons with Renewed Focus. It will take a bit of practice but I can see why you like it. By the end of the first dungeon I was already developing an appreciation. And, yeah, I am traited for condition clear.

I think getting pushed out of my comfort zone, forcing me to learn something better, really will help me become a better player. Oh, I really am a noob Guard… my first Guard is not an old toon.
