Hi guys! Just thought i’d give my thoughts on the current state of the Guardian profession based mainly on structured pvp. Well, here goes!

Pros:

-Fairly decent direct damage. Especially true if you equip the 1h sword.
-Multiple ways of mitigating attacks through blinds and bubbles.
-Ability to quickly shorten the distance between you and your target

Cons:

-Less damage than a Warrior and lower Survivability due to low health tier.
-Unable to mitigate large, multiple hitting skills due to blind only blocking one attack.
-Unable to spec properly into condition damage due to the short duration of burning.
-Even after you are able to close the distance, you’re unable to keep them there due to lack of cripple or long standing immobilization.
-Lack of escape mechanisms.(ride the lightning, stealth, Whirlwind or rush)
-Current Elite skills have been nearly useless due to long cast times and lack of stability to finish them.
- Lack of a real ranged weapon. Scepter is still very slow and easily dodged.

I know there’s a long list of cons compared to the pros but let me explain. I’ve played most of my time in spvp because that’s just what I find fun. Anytime I go into a fight, I can’t retreat. There’s nothing in my arsenal that lets me make a tactical retreat to regroup and come back. Also, mitigating damage has been is a lot less effective compared to say, “Endure Pain” or even Blurred frenzy which puts out a lot of damage while leaving you invulnerable on a short cool down(10 seconds). Anytime I flash to my target, if they’re relatively decent player, will cripple me leaving me to do nothing but burn my utilities to keep it off me only to have it put back on. While blind is excellent on paper, combine it with other professions ability to apply quickness,(guardian doesn’t have) it takes nothing short of a simple AA to make it almost useless.

This post isn’t to bash the Guardian because it’s by far my most favorite concept. I just think the execution has been lackluster. Granting the profession the lowest health tier due to fast dissipating bubbles and easily mitigated blinds seems nothing short of ridiculous. After the recent change to the Tomes of courage/wrath, it’s nearly impossible to utilize the skills true power. Granted before it was easy with stability but now it’s become a chore and it’s much easier to just spam the 1 skill. Maybe cut the heal in half and keep stability or lower the cast time?
