Hi guys, please tell me what you think of this build. I’d appreciate suggestions/criticisms. Entirely for pve and dungeons no wvw. Deals pretty solid damage while still supporting through symbols ands consecrations. With proposed change to purging flames it sounds even better. So far I notice my biggest weakness is massive conditions (like 4-5 at once) and periods of prolonged incoming damage. (Cof p3 defense)

Thoughts?

I’m not sure if i’d use larger symbols, so much room to screw fire fields (i don’t even like hammer that much because of that). Swap your offhand to a greatsword for more damage and to deal with some conditions, just combo WW + Symbol of Wrath, while it may be unreliable due to the nature of the projectiles it helps sometimes, and is better than nothing. Also you could swap trinkets to zerk if you have the laurels to do so, if not, just play with exotics.

I would stick with berserkers even with hammers. I agree with oxxy that in pve there is no need for larger symbols, I still use superior aria because shouts are simply too useful

Combo fields don’t work like that. As long as you put down fire field before light field, the former one will be triggered.

If those fields were overlapping and fire one was put down first, yes, you were.

The only reason I run larger symbols is that my usual groups have a pair of zerker warriors and the extra radius makes sure those glass cannons get that protection buff. Does anyone have any opinions on having those symbols heal instead? Is the 150 ish per pulse heal worth it? I have a symbol down all the time so it would be like a free regen…

even before the symbol buff I have never seen my teammates not getting the protection symbol buff. Only time that happens is when someone is running around like headless chickens.

about pulse heal.. I don’t find the amount to be significant enough

can always work out to group mobs, then stack tight : )) and with the (not so) recent (anymore) buff to symbol sizes, i usually don’t take larger symbols anymore (least not for PvE).

18k seems a lot of health in PvE. personal take. i think that’s too much even for WvW XDD depending on your build and your purposes. why not more zerker accessories?

if you do switch it up, i am tempted to drop 10 from Radiance and put that in Virtues. though you lose 10% from Radiant Power, and only another 5 pts away from Power of the Virtuous or what’s its name… you can pick up absolute resolution which is pretty useful. and you can switch to other useful traits depending on your encounters.

just some thoughts. 15 in Zeal and longer lasting symbols with hammer is pretty devastating. : ))

This man speaks the truth!! That’s what I run with my hammer build and it works great.

Yeah I used to run 15/25/0/20/10 on my guardian but the condi removal was too weak for the stuff I was doing so I jumped on the Sw/F bandwagon >_>

I agree the condition removal is a bit weak at the moment but the Oct. 15 update should help with that. 15 Zeal with a Hammer is pretty amazing. I consistently put 5-8 stacks of vulnerability on targets. Paired with the GS warriors, it’s another 10% damage for the whole group all the time.

As for my health pool, I think it was partly to help buffer those conditions. I do think 18k might be a bit high though. I’m not awesome enough to roll full zerker and do dungeons with 10k health. Suggestions on a good health pool size? 16k? 17k?

whatever you are comfortable with tbh, I thought I needed 15k and then I got used to it and kept chipping it down, now I sit comfortably at 12k, can go lower but I love my superior aria

Hammer build with vuln on symbols, longer symbols and longer protection duration is where its at for guard. Pretty much make your group gods as long as they stay in melee range. With PoV and aria, you are pretty much unstoppable but still got good dps.

i used to camp 16k with any build i came up with and would never go below. then i tried 15k one day. then 13k another day. like Wukunlin said, you’ll get used to it and you can slowly adjust. : )) we can all throw out numbers for you, but in the end, it’s up to you and go try out the different paths / encounters / with different groups and find something you’re most comfortable at any given situation. you can always bring different jewelry to swap out if a certain fight or group calls for more HP.

and just practice practice practice! while you have fun.
