Personal guardian build
Probably the biggest problem most will see in this build is lack of trait oriented health maintenance. Meditation/Healing Power/Altruistic builds provide combat sustaining health to continue fighting against classes with more health or more damage than the Guardian is capable of.
By not hitting the grandmaster traits, you limit yourself from some of those foundations that show up in every popular build right now.
This is not to say that your build will not work, but the majority would have a problem with it for those reasons.
Beyond that as far as putting forward higher damage, our damage increasing traits are:
- Fiery Wrath (10% dmg on burning target)
- Radiant Power (10% dmg on targets with conditions)
- Elusive Power (10% dmg when endurance is not max)
- Unscathed Contender (20% dmg when Aegis is active)
- Power of the Virtuous (1% per a unique boon totaling 9% extra dmg)
If you want to include vulnerability we also have on blind and on immobilize that will increase damage to targets as well.
Any combination of those traits and an increase in power/crit chance/crit damge will result in fairly high damage potential, but you often will have to sacrifice a lot of survivability to reach the levels of damage that are noticeable.
Greatsword is a good dps oriented weapon because it does single and AE damage very well, and arguably the best dps weapon we have. Some say sword or scepter are better, a few say hammer.
My biggest question is why staff? If it’s just for the swiftness boon, then that’s fine, but you limit your weapon swapping a lot if you do that. It does not have the same synergy with the greatsword if you are looking for damage builds.
End result is, if it works for you and you are satisfied…use it!
Hi,
I’m testing a 0/0/30/30/10 staff/GS build in both sPvp/tPvp and I’m pretty happy.
It’s a mixed build, with a good healing and a bit of offensive.
Perma swiftness, long boon duration, lots of fields , cleanser combo and retaliation.
Empower(last 12s on a 16s cd) + GS are great, you’d have about 3k attack while in GS and keep good healing skills.
Up to now I’ve had hard time vs confusion mesmers… ( missing mace autoattack ) I’ve found myself forced to skip GS skills too often to be a problem for the mesmer.
Maybe this build is not the best… but it’s funny
Just wanted to point out that cleansing bolts do not purge conditions off yourself. 99% positive on that one, but I may be wrong.
Usually have Contemplation of Purity instead of Sanctuary to clean conditions
I’m testing Sanctuary if it’s a viable alternative…. (SY & SYG seems a must ;P )
ps: I found this build funny cause you keep good 1vs1/( 1vs2 ) results and in a group you really help your team with healing, condition removals, boons and also good AOE and direct damage.
It’s not a full bunker build… there are classes/build that will give you lots of problems,
it’s not a full dmg build … but still be funny ( and maybe quite usefull )

Messed around with Staff/GS for a bit and saw that the symbols combo well and create some pretty significant burst together. They are ready along side with the weapon swap fairly easily and create a substantial and not always noticed burst attack.
If you have the time you can Empower with the staff, drop Symbol of Swiftness, swap to GS, drop Symbol of Wrath right on top of Swiftness, then Whirling Wrath for some extra push.
Randomly downed a few people not expecting that in sPvP.
Although it is really hard to get someone to stay in both if its a mobile fight….and had really bad defense the way I traited to play with it (all symbol traits in Zeal and Honor)
Symbol play has potential, but needs tweeking.
This is not a burst or heavy damage build, the core (imo) is a bunker build.
I’ve swapped from a similar traited bunker build with staff/mace+focus cause 90% impossibility to kill someone … 3/5 of a pugged tPvp group that
doesnt know how to take advantage of your utilities … ect…
I like the utility role, being hard to kill, get 2-3 ppl waste a lot of time on you before their can cap the point, even if damage output is low.
In this setup I feel I can do better even in pugged tPvp.
Healing and utilities skills for my team are great , but I give up a bit of self utilities and survavibility for a “decent” damage output and I’ve found that seems more useful.
In bunker mode I felt “unkillable”… but not 100% useful ( unless in a premade team ).
In sPvp o random tPvp this build seems to do the best for that role.
Damage is quite good, I can keep pressure on most of classes… sure I cant kill everyone! it’s not the right build
I’m in trouble with confusion ( mesmers )… loosing self heal/utils and having to stop GS burst and AOE is very hard to handle. This is usually a lost fight.
With other classes is a balanced fight… usually takes a lot of time ( that’s what I’m looking for ) but can also be a victory.
With this build mobility is great.. swiftness always up, GS leap is great.
Empower is the key… for healing when grouped, for unleash decent damage when required. You have to be careful not to be interrupted when channelling ( using line of warding )
Are you looking for a PvE, WvW or PvP build Lev?
pvp preferably thanks for the feedback everyone i really appreciate it
Most people would complain about no Altruistic Healing, and no 30s is bad mainly beause your build lacks a focus and is a weak generalist build. If you mainly use Greatsword/Staff Zeal helps you to deal more damage. IMO 30 Zeal 30 Honor and 10 Virtues is something you should try, along with Altruistic Healing. This maximizes on Power, Vitality and Healing Power. It’s easy to use equipment to aim for the stat numbers you want to get from there.
