Point defence help
Hint: Wall of reflection. People at range will literally kill themselves while you continue to dance on the point.
Also, when wall of reflect is down, come out and challenge the ranged attackers. If you see them making a move for the point, dodge back to it quickly so they can’t contest it. More often than not, upon entering melee range the player will weapon switch away from the ranged option and enter melee/midrange combat. Then you won’t be at such a disadvantage.

In situations like that, you’ll have to make a choice. Either stand on the point and wait, or try to get out of their line of sight, or attack them.
What you could do is attack one, then, as the other goes to the point, blink to them with the Sword and then knock them off it, or fight them on the point.
Alternatively, you could use Flashing Blade to got to one of them (or just walk up to them) and knock that one closer to the other, so you can fight both at the same time.
Also, consider using a Shield. I use one in my point defense build, and it helps me greatly in situations like this. It’s a couple of extra seconds that I can ignore their attacks.
Thanks for that. Currently I run with 2 meditations and a shout for utilities (as I said very new so still running a “cookie cutter” build)
I’ll try switching out one of the meditations out for Wall of reflection when left on my own on a point.
I’ll also try and be more aggressive. I’m always worried about that as its very easy to get focused on a target and allow someone to slip behind you.
I do run with a shield. I always have mace/shield, but swap my second choice between hammer and sword/focus. I seem to prefer sword/focus but I keep reading hammer is better for point defence so I’m trying to learn how to use that more effectively
I find the Mace too slow and defensive, even for point defense, so I default to Sword/Shield.
Hammer is probably our best weapon to keep a point clear from enemies. It has 3 of its five skills dedicated to exactly that and the other two skills offer you Protection, high damage and Retaliation.
Maybe you should compromise and use Hammer together with Sword/Shield or with Mace/Focus?
And yeah, aggression is very important. If the point allows it (like with The Beach and The Mine) I like to play further in the field, so I can intercept incoming enemies before they even reach the point (but not so far that I can’t easily return).
