[PvE] Healing/support Guardian armor
I’d go with Cleric’s. Vitality with no Toughness is…well, silly.
I have the same question
Cleric’s or Magi’s is better?
Magi’s is cheap because you get it from AC but Cleri’c is only crafted as far as I know. But the question is which one is better?
well, I thought the same, that Cleric’s one was a bit better in the role of healer/support, so I will certainly go for this one.
Thanks for the answer, if people still have advices on stuff or build to give me, I’ll take them
Magi > Cleric. Hmm…proc EM and Vigor or not….
Vitality is also better than toughness in GW2 PvE. People are just taking their thinking from other games and trying to apply it here.
if you’re going healing, nothing wrong with a smaller (note: smallER) healthpool. i feel one should always try to balance vitality and toughness. not saying they be equal, but depending on your build, you can tweak one way or the other. but i wouldn’t go one and completely ignoring the other. least not for the Guard. toughness let’s us soak up a lot of dmg, while vitality gives us a buffer so we can get heals in, remove conditions, etc.
that being said, i want to say Cleric’s > Magi’s as wel though this will highly depend on your trait set up as well to if you can find a sweet spot to balance the two, go for it!

Well when they make precision/toughness/healing gear then this argument will be worthwhile. As it stands, you’re giving up vigor and group might procs as well as possibly lifesteal procs for what very well may be a nonexistant gain in survivability. Even if toughness were better, I’d rather add that extra support to my group through dodge heals and might.

I’d have to agree with Yaki-there’s no Magi accessories save for the spineguard sold for Karma at Lyssa’s temple, so you could only go full cleric’s, or part Magi’s, part Cleric’s (or Giver, but I am not counting that one.) It’s currently impossible to have full exotic Magi gear (full meaning every single accessory-not just the armor.) I was once debating whether to craft full Exotic Cleric’s for myself (long time ago, actually) but ended up buying all Magi armor pieces from the Orr temples (the boots came from AC dungeon, since there are no Orr Magi’s boots available for some reason.) Since I use all Cleric exotic accessories save for that Magi Spineguard (which in any case also upgraded with an Exquisite Cleric’s stats Jewel), it balances up well: good armor, good vitality, decent critical hit chance, and overall, more versatility for the times I wish to switch builds to something that could benefit from critical hits.
I have used Rare Cleric armor during my first month or two of playing, and it works fine. Full Cleric’s everything will work. I just find it less versatile, since I like criticals not really for the damage, but for whatever effects may be activated via criticals.
IF there was an option for Magi accessories , THEN I would not try that because Hit Points would be high, but armor and power would be too dangerously low for my taste and the way I play. Having extremely low power (minimum, actually) would be fine for someone out there, to be sure, but even I would concede that it would be a bit too weak on the offense department.
Ironically, nowadays I use my Knight’s Draconic armor set, though I still have my old Magi’s armor in my inventory. I do keep my Cleric’s accessories though, because I am used to Healing Power, and couldn’t imagine any of my builds with none at all.

I ran full Cleric’s for the longest time and then just recently switched over to Soldier’s. Full Cleric’s makes you heal a bit more, but even with Toughness you can get bursted really easily without Protection rolling. With all that said, I really don’t miss the extra Healing Power with the switch. Cleric’s is definitely good for starting out.
With all that said, I prefer to get the majority of my healing power from Superior Sigil of Life. That way you can pick up non-Healing Power pieces if you need an item that gives Vitality and Toughness. Again, this is your own preference – if you can manage with a just-under-14k health pool, go for it. I couldn’t so I made the switch.

I had full Clerics armour with 0/0/30/30/10, AH shouts build. Build is pretty durable and nice support, but damage suffers.
So i rolled full knights with knights accessories and i love it. Empowering might procs all around + almost constant protection on melee makes for a durable offensive support build, check out https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-Hammer-and-Altruistic-Healing-gameplay
Both magi and cleric’s are a good way to go.
They equal out in survivability, one having vit and one having toughness doesnt matter much… With toughness you take a little less dmg until you can heal it back up with a lower health pool, and with vit you have more of a buffer until you can heal.
They are practically the same for guardian as far as survivability.
The major different between magi and clerics is the crit. That’s it.
Going full support in PVE is almost pointless, mobs still need to die, unless you are with some amazing dps, it’s a war of attrition, and you wont win not being able to do any dmg.
You can get all Magi exotic accessories at the temples now, except for the crests or whatever the things are called you slot into them.
This argument is kind of funny because as Kahrgan says, full support is almost pointless in the current game so we’re arguing over which inferior gear setup is best. That said, I still have a lot of fun on my inferior Guardian. WTB heals that are more than 600 range so I don’t have to chase after ranged players.
First, thanks for all your answers guys.
I wanted to go for a healing guardian since in my guild, there are tanks, dps, etc, but no heal, so I chose the guardian (maybe it wasn’t the good choice, I don’t really know). But if you tell me it’s pointless, I might not go for it.
If I understood well, I should go for Magi’s or Knight’s armor plus Cleric’s accessories ? Indeed, it can be a nice choice I admit it.
What should I do ? :’(
And, if you still have advices on what build should I go for etc, don’t hesitate (I’m actually having a look at “The healway guardian”)
Honestly, if you want to be a healing/support machine, currently ele’s have the niche filled right now. They have a higher learning curve but are very successful at boon uptime, healing, and overall support.

As a support roll what every gear you get make sure in the end you have at least about 40% crit. it will increase your self healing by a good deal and allow you to have 3-4 stacks of might up on every person near you even if you just auto attack and use symbols. People tend to love two guards in a group that can keep 25 stacks of might going on every one.
@lenexkabol : thank you, I’ll remember it
@ArtemisEntreri : yes actually the main thing I want is healing and supporting. I chose the guardian since I thought it would be the best choice for this role, and I would also be able to tank. But if you tell me Ele is better… I don’t know what to do now lol.
Could someone tell me a little bit more about the Ele as a heal/support, and the differences with the Guardian ? (even if it’s not really the good place to ask this)
