PvE: bashed for being zerker + a wvw question
Being a zerker guard is fine, at least in PvE. I run half celestial half zerker; as long as you’re staying alive and doing your job I wouldn’t worry about what others are saying.
I can’t recommend a good WvW build, but a lot of people seem to go Healway.
Hey!
So I got totally bashed by my group in a dungeon the other day for being a zerker guardian with shouts and wall of reflection.
They called me a noob and that I should learn how to play guardian.
Note that I did not die….
Is this the general idea of the public? And for the wvw question:
I like zerker in pve but I will no way play that in wvw but what stats should I go for in wvw. I’m thinking that I might keep the trinkets zerker though, just to get some dmg squeezed out of it.
suggestions?
The general idea of the public is “Go Zerker or l2p” or “only bads play Zerker” depending on where you are. Both are kinda dumb. If Zerker works for you, then play Zerker. You could ask some Zerkers what you can do to improve/if you need to improve too. Builds are all about learning what works for you and your playstyle.
WvW, I’d think you’d want more toughness.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.

Congratulations, you found some of the most stupid people in GW2. Just ignore them and go on playing Zerker, it’s the best you can do in a dungeon.

Well the deal is this. Support stats like healing power just do not scale well enough for PvE. Most damage avoidance comes from blocking, clearing condi, and dodging. The only bad zerker is one who spends the fight down. If you feel comfortable in zerker gear then use it. In general players should be maximizing their DPS while figuring out how squishy they can really handle being. Smooth runs without someone keep track of time and not full of tanks (ie very slow run) do not usually care about how, “leet your deeps” are and are more about if you are getting carried or not.
For example I did TA F/U the other day and didn’t realize I had my WvW jewelry on (magi). I felt my DPS was a little low but my party just went about the run fine. Did it again today and barely noticed a difference in survivability near full zerk (my neck is knights rest zerker).
My point is in most cases all other players care about is that you do the content and get it done smoothly. I will say this. getting your DPS up makes PvE fights shorter with less room for screw ups. You do not have to be full anything but be mindful of your DPS. No player in their right mind is going to kitten about getting a run done faster.
Question OP. What run were you doing when people said this?

I dunno, I had a guy complain about how fast my warrior was melting alpha… course it was actually the FGS ele but pugs don’t know of such things.
@OP
Just remember that these same people that bashed you always go “Oh wow great group guys i’ve never done this so fast” when they meet at least 3 people that know their stuff in zerk gear to carry’em.

Dungeon:
was this a PUG group? were some of them from the same guild?
like many have said, if you’re comfortable playing in full zerker, then go for you. seeing as you use WoR and shouts, i assume you don’t play only for yourself and try to support the team where you can, as well as AoE aegis and what not.
don’t mind them. you know what you’re capable of. no one needs to prove anything to anyone.
WvW
i think this ultimately depends on which server you’re from, who you play against and what time zone. will you be facing zergs more? or do you plan to do small fights?
also, what you want to accomplish. roam? take camps? run with the zerg? do you want to “tank”, go frontlnie and support as much as possible? or do you want to be more focused on damage dealing?
going full zerk can be really rough, especially with all the condition builds out there nowadays.. but it’s not impossible. more toughness always helps, though i’d say definitely go for more vit to eat up some of those conditions ticks. we can only cleanse so much. but at the end of the day, more damage is always nice.

judges→SPIN TO WIN→pray they were squishy enough for it to be over!

You can’t deny having the ability to nuke 5 people in under 2 seconds isn’t funny

Nice, alot of posts to answer from being away at work

yeah I thought more toughness would be nice. mostly leaning towards either Soldier gear with zerker trinkets or go knights maybe.
CptAurellian.9537
That’s pretty much what I thought as well.

Good point there

I don’t think any of them were from the same guild but 2 of them were complaining for unknown reasons And yeah I try to maximize my dps through gear and support my team with my utilities like WoR, shouts or the spirit shield, which seems to me like it’s the way to go since my gear don’t really help the rest of the team as long as I manage to stay alive. Think I might also put soldier runes even on my berserker gear but haven’t fully decided yet.
For WvW I do both zerging and solo/small group roaming but it’s more zerg than roam. As I mentioned above in this post I might go soldier armor with zerker trinkets, does this seem like a good setup? The build isn’t quite clear yet but I’m thinking of going some offense still, maybe throw in some consecrations for reflect and stability.
For most PVE content, Zerker is great as long as you know what you’re doing.
You can’t go in and face tank, but you can usually get in, let off your big skills and then either cc, blind or roll out to avoid damage.
I have 2 sets of zerker armor (one with ruby orbs, the other with Travelers) and a set of Assassins (ruby) and PVT (Soldier) and Celestial (boon duration).
The ruby orb sets deal the most damage, but it’s worth giving up a little dps to have perma speed in most general PVE situations.
If you run zerkers and go down most of the time, you should consider mixing in something else but if you’re usually the last man standing, then you’re doing it right and you shouldn’t listen to the haters – it’s a min/max style that bothers some people who think you should be more “balanced”.
I honestly would not want to play with a zerker guardian. If I am going to have a zerker, I’d much prefer a zerker warrior. Zerker has much more synergy with warriors due to their naturally large health pools and massive damage and the ridiculous amount of regen they can get without giving up to much.
All of that said, there is nothing wrong with a zerker guardian. You can survive and not die as well as anyone else that knows how to dodge. I’d just prefer a support guardian unless I were running CoF or some easy mode dungeon.,

What does a support guardian mean? Like you want a full cleric healer or something? The main utilities that guardian bring, can be brought in Zerker gear. The only difference is the zerker will be bringing nice damage.
In Arah, the amount of things I block/blind for my teammates is absurdly high. I save my blocks solely to help them out, since dodges is enough to keep myself alive. Zerker gear(x/x/0/10/20) allows me to help the fight end faster, but doesn’t hinder my ability to block attacks, blind the enemy, cast stability when needed, and throw wall of reflection from all the ranged BS.
Funny note, yesterday I had a CoF Guardian running SE p1 with my group. He was using a staff at about a 10 body length distance from the final boss…. Me and my friends were dying with laughter at this. We were guessing he may have been healing the boss.

Lol, when will people realize that a zerker guardian does more damage and provides more utility then a warrior?
hard enough to make them cry, not just rivers but oceans."
When fully buffed, true. But let’s be honest, how often do you really have 25 vuln, 25 might, 100% fury and all that fancy stuff like Empower Allies at the same time? Though yeah, timid talks absolute nonsense.

All dungeon are easy mode when the whole team is zerker.

Yep, happens all the time. Everytime we get one or two pugs for a run, we hear “omg, that was so fast!!”. Even though it was actually slow because the pug rarely runs zerker with good builds.

This happens a lot….. I’m in mumble with my friends saying how slow that run was, then the two pugs with us were typing about how we should do other dungeons because that run was super fast.
