PvP: What should I do as a guardian?
try to stream the pvp matches from the pvp championship and see how guardians play there.
Call target on whoever you are doing the Ring+JI combo on.
Almost always Ring+ JI together, they have roughly the same CD so if you use one without the other it can hurt your combo for an extended period of time.
Rotate to the teamfight and kill the squishy targets.
Avoid 1v1s usually unless you must engage. (you will need to learn what builds beat you, builds like d/d ele, good engis, shoutbows, and GS guards will probably beat you but you can beat thieves, mesmers, scepter/f eles etc,
Hammer guard is not a bunker or point defender but a teamfighter.
Use stability + ring to secure stomps for the team.
Guards in general and hammer guard more so then GS have weak disengage, therefore if you decide to engage you will be committing to the point.
Thank you for the tips Manimarco! Thank you Aeolus as well: I watch the streams, but I usually focus on the mesmers. I’ll try to pay more attention to the guardians.
So usually, I should avoid going far, unless the opposite team is snowballing like crazy, right? Because once I am outnumbered, I can’t get away.
Oh, and just one more question: should I use Pack runes or Traveler?
Pack is superior due to the fact the boons will also be given to your allies during the teamfight and you wont have any innate fury off meditations anymore since you should be running glacial heart.
you can go far if you want the build is still a strong 1v1. just avoid 1v1 vs dd ele and shoutbows, you can win about anything else
Pick up traveler runes if you find guard to be too slow. I can imagine how painful it must be to watch sword go up and down on a point before you’re even capable of getting there, so stick to roaming between mid/home. Rushing far shouldn’t even be on a secondary checklist (unless its obvious your team has won the match and you’re just messing around).
If you’re running around in pugs, don’t use the hammer. Not enough co-ordination to warrant the difficulty involved. You usually want to focus the squishies and faster classes in a brawl since you can usually flash out of nowhere and shred them before they even know what happened. Basically, you want to behave like a thief who is a bit slower and can actually take a hit so don’t be afraid to roll around dealing damage after your initial burst (be wary of when you might get overwhelmed).
If your target can see you before you’ve bursted, immediately run with your second weapon set first, since most people are waiting to foil your main burst.
Aside from that, keep your combos fresh and you’ll find that you’ll never struggle VS ANY class (yes, even d/d ele).
