Question about Altruistic Build
That depends on how you are doing. If you die too much you could up your vitality or thoughness. But if you feel you survive enough then you could go zerker for more damage.
Ask yourself or see for yourself how your build is performing. Are you playing WvW, PvE or sPvP?
WvW: small roaming groups/solo/zerging?
PvE: what content? (dungeons, world events, ….)?
sPvP: Tournaments (solo-queing or steady group)/hotjoin?
All these questions are in need of an answer so you can know what you want your build to perform like. But mostly: read the first 2 lines for easy start :p
never take zerker on the weapon because you lose one of the most stats for crit dmg there unless you plan on all out zerker
take knights

Can knights weapons only be acquired through crafting or buying from the TP?

yea, in addition,
sorrow furnace and arah dungeons got knights too
I am new to Guardians, just hit 80 yesterday and i have to say i am having a blast playing it, is so fun. Anyway my build is AH, my armor is soldiers with lyssa runes and weapons are knights, rings and accessories knights and i have 43% crit chance and 2k toughness. Still have to get an amulet (i have a lvl 70 amulet still) i am thinking of getting zerker amulet since i have good toughness already but i dont know, maybe cavaliers to get a lil more crit damage.
As Zackie was saying: you should be careful where you take Crit Damage as you don’t get equal value everywhere. Check it yourself: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature#Comparison_of_numeric_vs._percentage_attributes
The best place to take it would be in your Jewels on your trinkets. Easily double the value there. I also take it on my shoulder/glove/boot slot in the form of Valk for Vitality. With AH you already have 30% crit damage and jewels can give you another 18%. That’s basically double crit damage there (base being 50% extra).
That being said, my final build has a zerker hammer planned just because most of my tank stats are on my other gear so I’m not too worried about losing out on my weapon.
Shyamal- Asuran Necromancer | Varg Houtman- Norn Ranger
Nemo Randolf- Human Guardian
Wolfgang is spot on here. Take zerker on your trinkets with your Knight’s armor. See where you stand, and where you want to be, as far as the weapon goes. You may not get as much stat value from the weapon, but you may also want to up your crit damage to maximize your dps potential.
What’s your rune situation? You may be able to fill in some gaps with those.
If you’re running an Altruistic build and I use knights armor…should my weapons also be knights Or should they be zerker or something else?
To answer your question simply, it depends on the weapon. Really it depends on what you plan on doing, fractals, dungeons, wvwvw, all around. I would advise against all berserker weapons. If you want one though, i’d have to vote for zerker hammer. You are gonna get protection and heal from the auto attack and if you put a fire sigil (or some other on crit sigil) you will get a ton of mileage out of it because of how many strikes the symbol is. Oh, and scepter. There are VERY few occasions where your scepter should be berserkers.
I guess if you REALLY want either zerkers or knights I’d go knights as a blanket for all of em. A cleric staff is great to have especially with AH. I REALLY think soldiers would suit your build better. It gives you ~80% of knights damage while giving you a TON of survivability from the vita. You already have quite a bit of toughness so the extra vita is gonna be amazing for burst protection or a missed dodge and especially good for rezing allies, you can’t abuse AH much when you are reviving so vita is your best cushion to keep your allies alive.
