Go get’em kid. ;D
Greatsword is the best damage/AoE you’ll have.
Hammer as 2nd weapon for bosses, does a large amount of damage (despite being so slow)
Staff is for Swiftness buff, heals, buff other players
Sword is for… meh, average. Best 1h damage dealing weapon. Mace is for healing/tank. Scepter is your only ranged option, because Staves aren’t considered ranged (has a really low range).
Shield if you don’t mind not having any offensive options, Torch if you want go full damage, Focus if you want to tank/balance.
Traitwise, there’s plenty of builds you can try.
Go Zeal if you plan on using Greatswords (and/or Spirit Weapons), Radiance if you use Swords/Torch (get Crit and Torch, or Spirit Weapon burning, plus Signet 20%), Valor if you want to go full tank (get Meditations/Boons heal), Honor for buffs (Might on crit, Shouts 20%) and Greatsword/Hammer/Staff (Symbols upgrade, reduced CDs), Virtues 1 tier for the Consecrations/Spirit Weapons if you plan on using them (they’re really useful).
Remember to pick Vitality either on gear or traits, Guardians have the lowest health tier in the game. Condition damage is really useful as well, or Power. Or both if you want to go glass cannon mode.
