Fun stuff to note over 2k power will net you 300+ Retal per tick, while traiting for condi damage retal sticks you with 260-270ish with fully stacked condition damage(It also says on the wiki you need 924+ Condition damage to surpass the power investment Retal.) So either power Retal is broke right now with base scaling or Radiant Retaliation needs to be buffed so you don’t actually lose damage on Retaliation for significant trait investment :V

Can you give us numbers of your power and your condition damage with and without the trait involved and what retaliation was hitting for specifically?
I’ll say this, the buff given, if it happens, would need to be substantial as the talent is in an odd trait tree to begin with. Tried to come up with a build based on high retal using that Grandmaster trait a while back, always kept running into “why wouldn’t I just use this other build if I wanted to do X?”
Nevermind, it appears they fixed power retal scaling with the bug fix patch that went out today. Yesterday I went into HotM to test builds out and traits, and I just noticed my retal procs were clocking in for about 300+ with1.9- 2k power on my guard. While when i went settlers with Undead runes, with 6 in radiance for Condi retal I clocked in only to about 270 per hit. WvW wise my necro with Axe, with food, guard stacks, and Signet of Spite, i noticed my retal was about 370 per proc yesterday >.>
I don’t think the reverted 33% retal damage reduction is intended.
Radiant Retaliation should really just be made into a base line effect for all classes.
Something like
“If your +condition damage is more then 2/5 of your power (not counting food/boons) then retaliation scales off of +condition damage instead”
If I recall correctly our active forum members said it wouldn’t pan out. Several tried builds around it and most if not all came back and said negative.
Would love to see Arena Net dig into their DB a bit and see how many active guardian players actually have it in play and what meta.
The general idea is borked. Why would a profession who’s only innate damaging condition is burning bother with pumping their condition damage up enough to be worth it in the first place? Even if you do have some niche build where it ends up being beneficial, it’s a pretty small benefit for a grandmaster trait.

I got to disagree with that. ANet just has to lower the threshold were Retaliation becomes stronger with condition damage than with power. Additionally, it would help a lot if the trait itself procced Retaliation like Spiked Armor on Warriors does but with a lower uptime. It probably won’t become meta but the idea of Radiant Retaliation itself is pretty solid.
