Yeah, I’m new to guard since DH. It’s fun and its made me want to explore the other possibilities of the Guard.

I’m wondering if burn guard is still viable and if anyone plays?

Well its not like it cost anything for you to try… personally I have trouble with burn guards as its literally a one trick pony. You have little in the way of other condis and once your burst is gone/cleansed its on a fairly long cd. Its only really good if you meet someone with absolutely zero condi cleanse or manage to surprise attack them. When it comes to guard, I think power is more flexible.

Yeah I tried it, felt good. Felt like no one was really expecting it. I mean, its not like I’m playing diamond/legendary either.

Felt a bit softer. And I dont get the shield on rez which can be really helpful in certain fights.

Before this, I was playing Symbolic.

I will say this, the best part about the burn guard that I’ve found is when people go down, the other team likes to suicide via attempting rez in my burn fields.

If you can’t deal aoe damages to 3 players consistently then you’re playing suboptimal.
If you’re getting focused then you’ll likely die quicker than a Necro.

If I feel I’m getting countered by Revs and/or Rangers I’ll switch to core burn burst guard. Other than that it’ll be more difficult to win pips compared to DH power meta.

I played Burn DH last week in unranked and it def has a big surprise factor. No one expects it and if you stick to the team fights your AOE damage is quite high. As mentioned above if you drop a purging flames on top of a group trying to rez they get melted.

Its squishier than the symbolic Dh build (I use Radiance, Valor, DH trait lines) so I don’t have dodge heals, aegis heals or symbol heals. But I have burn on block and we have a TON of blocks. The amount of burn reapplication is quite high so even if they cleanse you reapply pretty quickly.

Burn guard probably works ok in unranked and lower tiers but I wouldn’t risk it in high tiers and I felt the squishier nature means its better in a team fight or 2v2 rather than a 1v1

I play the non DH burnguard from time to time. As stated above, bit of a one trick pony but amazing burst and most people don’t expect it. They see a guard and expect traps even if you don’t have the elite virtues lol.
