I play a Scepter / Focus Guardian and one of the skills I use is Retreat for the speed boost buff. It’s a very useful skill that grants AoE Aegis / Speed boost which is awesome… but my problem is this: When I am not fighting any mob and I use it… it draws my weapon and attacks the closest mob to me.. why? What is the point? When it does this it not only slows me down because it puts me in combat, but it also defeats the purpose of the speed boost! Am I the only person who finds this odd? If I want to engage a mob I don’t need the help of my speed boost ability to do it. Please change this Arena Net, simply make it so it doesn’t draw my weapons if I am not in combat. Thanks!

Turn off auto-target in the options menu.

I already know I could do that… I want it on for my other skills… just not for Retreat.

I’ve noticed this happens with all shouts, not just retreat. I find it very annoying too. I have no idea why a shout targets a hostile critter, especially since none of our shouts can be used offensively.

What I have been doing is hitting my sheath / un-sheath weapons button that I assigned to the Z key. But still, I shouldn’t of had to. It’s something simply I think they could fix and it wouldn’t provide players with any game breaking advantage.

I agree. Turning off auto target and melee assist is so useful. Melee assist being on drives me nuts.
