Ok I was curious about these. I loaded them up on my guardian along with the trait that gets you a heal when Aegis removed.

Now in theory I should get a heal when Aegis removed (confirmed for 1k with build)
I should get an Aegis when healing. Confirmed.
I should get a short running Regen when I block an attack. Confirmed.

I should get a “heal for small amount when blocking an attack”

It this latter I can not confirm as no messaging seems to come up for it. I do get that heal from Virtue of resolve but as far as I can tell nothing from a block as suggested in the 6th bonus.

Has anyone been able to determine if this heal does in fact happen and if so for how much?

I know it on a 30 second cooldown but see no indication it ever triggers. In theory If I have Aegis up and heals on aegis removal along with these runes that block should add regen, the heal from Aegis and the 6th rune bonus.

Try removing pure of heart trait and then retesting. They might not stack.

Yes tried that and still do not see anything. I then removed all the other secondary effects of Aegis that were traited as well as secondary traits on Blocks such as defenders flame and there no sign of a heal on a block.

I then activated Virtue of resolve to turn off its passive and still saw no extra heal trigger, As far as i can tell the 6th trait does not work.

This might be an interesting rune choice if on a block one got regen, a heal (30sec cd) and then traited for burning and/or might on block along with that heal on aegis removal.

Have you tried it with a non-Aegis block? For instance, mace #3 or focus #5?

Yes I did. I was using a mace/focus combo for much of the night and checking the log diligently. It possible it does not show up in the log and I got a heal without knowing it that was mixed in with other numbers that procced on the screen but from my own observations I never saw it proc.

Forgive me, but I don’t recall a Rune of the Defender even existing. Could you please explain what it is, and what it’s not doing?

You may need to do that again while trying to notice if your health points change any.

Either
1) The heal log (Combat > boons log > shows ur heals) is broken and doesn’t show this.. the bug happens a lot.
2) The heal is so small you litterally don’t know the difference.
3) It’s broken

Based on your tests, it’s either too small to make a difference or it’s simply broken. Either ways i’d see if the rest of the rune helps you. Good luck!

Was released with the latest patch (along with Superior Sigil of Blight), the recipe is available on the TP.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Defender

(1): +25 Healing
(2): When you block a foe’s attack, gain 1 second of regeneration.
(3): +50 Healing
(4): When you use a heal skill, gain aegis for 5 seconds. (Cooldown: 10s)
(5): +100 Healing
(6): When you block a foe’s attack, heal yourself. (Cooldown: 30s)

Apparently the 6th block on heal is not proccing

I made this set for my zealot’s/zerker set today. I noticed the 6th effect is indeed proccing, in fact it heals me for 4.6k in WvW with ~700 healing power. However, you have to watch for the green number to appear on your screen as this doesn’t show in your combat log. Whatever fueled the idea to give one of the best sustain classes even more sustain with this rune beats me, but I’m having fun with the rune.

How to control when #6 proc’s for a guardian..
As of course the very first thing that happens in any fight is a block, inconvenient.

Agreed. It’s more of a 1v1 rune than anything else in my opinion, but once you get going, the sustain is pretty crazy considering you can still spec mostly for dps, but take aegis heals. It’s at least something that’s usable.

Yes I did in fact finally see this rune PROC today. I got a significant heal on my guardian. You do have to watch that screen closely. I think what was happening before is when it did kick in I was always at or near full health.

It was actually such a BIG heal I did not notice

In any case with the Aegis giving another heal of near 1k on removal PLUS those regens this makes for a very useful rune. One can go the AH route and get all those small heals kicking in on every block or go medi guard. It might also open up builds for guardians who want neither but want an extra heal source.

Now according to the WIKI the new AEGIS goes up after the heal. This means you will get that 4k plus heal on a block then instantly throw up another aegis.

Agreed. The sustain is absolutely amazing. I have a lot more fun just running full zerk and yoloing it, but… in a small man fight, this rune can take the pressure off me so much faster if I get focused. It’s interesting and definitely did not disappoint me since I have been cautiously optimistic about it since it was datamined in November. I will refuse to run this in 1v1s though. It’s making medi guard the power version of condi regen ranger.

To me it all came down to how the rune functioned with Pure of Heart, the ICD on the regen, and the amount of heal on block- and it has met or exceeded (that 4k heal tho) expectations on all three of them. Definitely a good alt set for me.

Edit: I just tried this in a medi vs. medi duel. It’s OP as all hell.

I have been testing this out today myself witha slightly edited zergbuild, and I must say the sustain is impressive, combined with Shelter, Virtue of Courage or Retreat, it felt amazing going from almost empty health bar to full and even with the 30 second cooldown I saw it procc plenty of times, combined of course with AH, plus the 1k heals coming from each dodge and destroyed Aegis

I really like this Rune after more testing. Now I understand the appeal of that block on shelter but I am finding greater efficiency using signet of resolve as my main heal. This not only clears that condition every 10 seconds but has a heal for +4000 more then does my shelter.

What I do is use this rune along with focus off hand to mace for the blocks and found if I am attentive I can get what in essence is another shelter using that block which throws up another Aegis along with a 4600 heal in the current build.

The regens generated add nicely to the AH heals and I am not sure yet whether i prefer AH as the heal or Monks focus for the meditations.
