What about reducing it’s speed slightly ~cough / very slight ~, but giving it a “Seeker” mentality?

They could still run out of range, but just not strafe it…

And ofcourse, still dodge-able etc.

It’s already really too slow, even tho i understand the theorical backload capacity.

The Seeker idea is really needed instead, seeing as at the moment they just strike what gets on the way while you are firing them. (pets, mobs, guards).

Uh, I just used my scepter and….it must be placebo, but it seems faster.

I know the patch notes only speak of the staff orb, but….

the tooltip has +2 seconds yes , but nothing has changed for the actual duration

The orb of light speed ?yeah whatever.

The main problem with the staff is that it has huge problems with elevation , misses target under or above you , same with the orb , it goes in the direction the terrain you’re on is pointed at. Also the animation with female human is terrible, and the auto-attack damage is delayed, it’s very annoying. That is what needed to be changed

I guess im one of the few who love scepter as as it is..it is and always has been a MID range weapon which is where it shines..it only has 1200 range because in closed beta people cried and cried that melee wasnt viable in wvw and guardians couldnt get kills in sieges without a longer range weapon..so they tacked on 300m

And people in beta were absolutely correct.
I’ve said this again and again: if Arenanet wants the Scepter to be used at mid-range, they should make it’s maximum range mid-range. If a weapon has 1200 range, I expect it to be useful at that range.

For once Ynna and I agree on something. They could just copy the mechanic of any other scepter 1 skill on any other class and people would be happy. Necro would be perfect. Scepter 1 could work exactly the same but apply a burning instead of bleeding, then we would have a weapon for those who would like to do condition damage. Bang problem solved.

We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional

I run scepter/torch glass cannon for siege defence..so many people get within 900m of the walls and when they do, i melt them..scepter auto hits up to 2700 in my build, smite ticks up to 1500, torch throw up to 7k not counting the burn..so afew autos, torch throw, smite, chains of light, more autos..if they live they wont get close again soon..agree that if they increase auto speed they need to nerf another aspect

Not necessarily. What I think is that they could give the attack some kind of cast-time. If they then increase the speed, the rate of fire (or more precisely the impact) is pretty much the same (and thus roughly the same theoretical damage), but the change to actually hit something is higher.

Alternatively, they could make it into a chain-skill, with ramping damage on the individual sub-skills.

You must play against the special ed server. Tried this weapon out in a keep and probably 1 in 20 balls hits its target. People avoid it with ease or even trying to.

This is a weird post. You know the scepter range is 1200, not 900, right?

Orb moves slow enough that even someone not specifically avoiding you will avoid them accidentally just by trying to avoid arrowcart fire.

Smite isn’t a red circle on the ground, it’s a crazy noticable blue aura with uppercuts of justice flying everywhere. It’s not even that wide an AoE. People aren’t just going to stand there. You can take two steps in any direction and all that damage is gone.
The immobilize is only a two second duration. That’s not long enough to even ensure they’re stuck in a Smite for the whole deal.

Someone who doesn’t want to get hit by Scepter attacks doesn’t even need to blow their dodges to avoid them. You must be attacking people who are afk or braindead. And brainless opponents do not make the scepter magically better than it is.

I didnt post to twist anyones arm into a new position n the scepter..if you are happy always having to be in melee range or hiding in the back using shield or staff buffs good for you..meanwhile i will continue enjoying the largest ammount of loot bags ive seen since i started wvw..and btw the range on chains if light is 900 not 1200
